valver cover breather smoking?
ok, today i start my car and i see some smoke come out of the engine, so i turn it off and open the hood but didnt see anything any more... so i start the car and go check inside the engine bay, and then i notice that the smoke is coming out of the valve cover breather, that little hose like thing on the side of the intake manifold.. i had never seen this, can someone please tell me what could be going on???
thanks
thanks
Thats blowby from the crank case, and it's what your motor should be burning if you had a functioning PCV system. Sounds like you just have a filter on there. Was it a whole lot of smoke? If it was coming out from under the hood, it sounds like it...
yes the smoke was coming from under the hood, and well after i opened the hood and turned on the engine i saw the smoke coming out of the breather, i believe instead of the breather there is a hose that connects from the valver cover to the intake, is there anything i should worry about?? ive had the car like that since i can remember but never seen the smoke, it wasnt a lot but you can still see it
Well it just sounds like there's a lot of blowby, indicating worn rings. A compression and leakdown test never hurt anyone, there's probably a write up somewhere, or a shop will do it for cheap.
The vent on the top of the valve cover should be connected to the intake hose before the throttle body with a short section of hose.
