Instant black snow from exhaust?
Well i pulled in my driveway and backed into my spot and revved the engine twice to about 4K rpms. I walked to the back of my car to see the snow bank, about 10 inches behind my exhaust, was completely black. I know some carbon is common on the h22 when they run rich...but is that excessive? I mean the car was near the snow bank for no more than 15 seconds while it was running. Just kinda wondering.
I have the same problem. I had to replace my motor due to water comin in through my cai and the motor I have now leaves an excessive amount of carbon on the bumper. I would love to know how to fix that.

Umm yes i do realize this but in 15 seconds? It looks like someone used a can of black spray paint on the snow. Ive just never had a car leave a black mark on snow from exhaust like that. My winter car with 240K miles doesnt do that...i just tried it just for a comparison and i let it run a lot longer and revved it a lot higher lol and there basically wasnt anything on the snow.

Run a search in the archives... there is a huge thread on seafoam. I had a friend whose car benefited well from it, I however tried it on a high mile accord, high mile Nissan, and my prelude and didn't notice anything but a smoother, punchier, low end on the accord. I used a lot of fuel injector cleaner in my vehicles so there is a possibility that my motors were already fairly clean. Caution: If you have an extremely high mileage motor, the shock treatment through the intake manifold is not recommended. You might break off a large chunk of carbon and cause some damage as well as lose some compression, to a point of in-efficiency. My Nissan/winter beater did NOT like the seafoam, I lost power (low end, gained a little high end back but this is my gas mileage commuter car so I wanted the low-end...) and gas mileage after using it, but I haven't put in new spark plugs yet so they might have fouled out.
When you shut your car off there will be some condensation built during the night, so when you rev the car when it's still cold the black water is spit out around. If you haven't had reved your car but let it get warm it wouldn't have spit like that as all the moisture would have evaporated...

That makes sence but my engine was already warm. I had driven it for a while. It just spits tons of crap out all the time i think and is getting really annoying

My car is white so I know ur pain. I wash it, have a little fun w/the car and the back bumper has black 'ish all over it. I dont even have aftermarket exhuast and i still get a lot of crap on the back.
Whats the best way to help correct this, if there is a way. Would correcting the A/F ratio help with anything other than get rid of the black crap on my bumper, like gain any HP? Any tips would help...im a little clueless on this part of the car.
