Default Draining coolant question.

I am changing my head gasket and have taken the head off, and i noticed the water jacket is still filled with coolant even though I drained the coolant... is this normal or not? Is the another way i can drain this portion of coolant?

There is a large bolt on the block to the left of your exhaust manifold. Pull that and it will drain the water jacket.
