Power steering pump noise?
I replaced my belts tonight among many other things and now my power steering pump is "whining" I know that it has a little leak around the bearing, but it wasn't making ANY noise before I messed with it. Now it whines really loud and it feels a little harder to turn. My belt isn't too tight either. Any ideas? Does anyone have an extra accord P/S for sale?? Thanks!!
Interesting you would have the same problem I have... I just had the timing belt replaced, and it whined more than normal, but then I realized that when they did the belts they also snipped the plastic tie I had that held the power steering hose from touching my uppper strut tie bar... so turns out when the hose touches the bar it make the whine even louder... I've always had the whine so I guess I think it's normal! Check the tension on the belt maybe you have it too tight? Just my two cents.
yes, whining is not necessarily a sign of a problem, it can very well be caused by a line touching the frame somewhere or belt not being tight enough and slipping under stress
