D16y8 intake mani on a D15z1?
whats up guys....
i jus got me a 94 VX hatch.....
i was wondering if i can swap out the intake manifold on it from a 1997 EX...
the stock intake manifold on the VXs d15 is wayyyyy to small....would the wider D16y8 fit on the car?....and if so...would it make a difference?.....
i already got the headers n the cat back n the CAI on there....
dont know what else to do to the car to speed it up....should i change my compression a lil?....bigger fuel injectors?...help me out please
thanx

Intake manifold bolts right up, use your stock fuel rail/injectors, there's no IAT sensor on the newer manifold, I don't know how to solve that problem.
Just remove the old IAT sensor from your VX manifold. When you install the Y8 manifold, just relocate the old IAT sensor anywhere along the intake piping.
The Y8 cars have the IAT sensor located on the filter box. If you're still running the stock airbox, it's pretty easy to drill the necessary holes to make your IAT sensor plug into it. If you're running some aftermarket intake, simply cut the needed holes to make the IAT fit into one of the rubber couplings... Last but not least, if you buy pretty much any intake designed for a 96-00 Civic EX it will already have the necessary placement of your IAT sensor.

Probably the biggest impact would be changing the camshafts. The VX engine was designed for maximum FE, so the high lift cam lobes are just about the same as the single cam lobes on a non-VTEC engine, while the low lift cam lobes are really low lift. Cams from a D-series Civic Si engine should give you a nice boost in hp.
curious...
Do you know if you're getting a 5speed or Auto Y8/EX intake manifold? I ask because if you wind up getting an auto Y8/EX manifold it will NOT allow you to bolt on your Z1's IACV sensor. This can pose as a problem, so try and get a 5speed Y8/EX manifold if you can.
