Default about ITR theft ...

i was starting to consider buying an ITR and i do live in southern cali. but i came on this board and starting seeing this myriad of posts dealing with theft esp in ca.

so i was wondering is it really that bad where as i should not even consider it anymore

-even with the best alarm systems? (lojack,...)
-what about the ITR owners that are in cali.. how do you deal with your situation

also i was wondering how expensive it would be to insure this car, seeing as how i'm sure insurance companies are privy to the fact that it's such a thief magnet...

thanks any feedback would be great

If you don't have a garage/hidden driveway don't consider it.

Even with a great alarm, if you cannot store the caR in either of the 2 places mentioned above, then don't do it.

If you can, then go ahead and enjoy. Just be weary, whereas a few owners have been having problems holding onto their ITR's even in their garages

Also, know that you are buying a caR that is pretty much unparkable at local malls, movie theaters, clubs etc etc.

I wouldn't recommend driving it as a daily driver. Just drive it on the weekends where you know that you'll be in the car most of the night or something. You can't leave the Type-R sitting somewhere too long...or it will be long gone! It's a shame.....

I garage mine...daily. The stickers are removed so hopefully thieves would think it's a different Integra at a quick glance. I suggest getting an alarm that has 2-way paging. Sometimes my cousin sets mine off when he closes his car door or starts up his car. Yes, have a VERY sensitive alarm and get a quick release hub too.

Haven't had trouble with thieves yet with this setup :crossesfingers:

Bullshit. I've daily driven my R in SoCal for the better part of four years with no garage.

How do you deal with it? Insurance.

two way alarm/pager system is the way to go. My R is daily driven when weather permits. then again I'm here in milwaukee, thieves normally just go for older hatchbacks with ratty motor swaps and no alarms.

None the less night time garage parking is highly recomended.

It's very much a shame to have something like that and worry majorly of it getting taken.

If you do get one, don't forget to also buy yourself a couple of bottles of aspirin. You will definitely need it and more. If you are ready for a serious commitment to the car, the go for it.

Best of luck in your decision thought process.

I used to DD my r in NYC for the longest, But I have been using the beater for most of my chores these days.

Park it at work.
Park it on the streets, and sometimes overnight too
And yes from time to time leave the doors unlocked cause I was too drunk to lock them

It can be done, but Highly Not recommended

its funny im listening to that eminem song "just lose it"

it kinda goes with how hot itrs are in cali.

"just lose it ha ha ha ha ha" is prolly how thieves think when they see you with your new itr. if you dont have a garage then i suggest getting full insurance. better yet dont buy one at all.

With no garage.....it won't take long till [they] know where your R is, and when you drive it. Remember thiefs job's are stealing cars. Check out Honda Tuning's article about ITR theft here in Arizona.

Getting an ITR is like the cinderella curse, you better be at home before mid-night or you'll loose the beauty, lol j/k

It's a headache but well worth it in my opinion

be prepared to invest in a lot of security.

insuring cars maybe based on your driving record and location where it will be as well. Good luck. Do a search on security in the archives section.

I live on the other side of town, but I use my R as a daily driver. And I do take it from time to time places like the movies, where I have no choice than to leave it be.

I have a few hidden goodies on it that keep it SOMEWHAT safer, but it will never be completely safe.

If you want an R, be prepared to spend some money on security features. Install a hella good alarm and car motion sensor. and put like 100 kill swithces in that thing.

Also should think about a removable steering wheel for when it is parked at home and the club for when it is parked out somewhere.

If you have a garage, dig a hole in it, burry a big *** chain in concrete and seal it, and at the end of the day, attach the chain to the car in like 10 spots with big *** locks.

Good luck!

the bastards would still be out there stealing cars. I doubt anything will ever be invented that will be able to beat theft.

Maybe one day they will make a car that you can push a button and it turns into a POS by appearance on the outside. Then turn back when you get in the car. lol
