Thanks Erek, how does that 8700 compare to the 5700 except for the amount of megapixles!? Nice shots, you put them on my post on Skafia also... haha!!

Typical Nikon quality...unmatched. I have a Coolpix 8700 and I love it. Make sure you get a decent tripod.

A salesman at best buy said that the 5700 and 8700 use the same photo sensor, but in the 8700, the gain is turned up to 8.0 megapixels. He said that this could cause distortion at higher ISOs.

lower. This is what they call an "SLR style" camera. its a bit better than your average point and shoot, but not quite up to true SLR levels.

Never used a D70, but I can gaurantee its way out of the Coolpix league. As good as they are "SLR style" cameras just can't quite compare to a real SLR. And I figure theres a reason the D70 has been named camera of the year by numerous magazines for the past 2 years now.

You'll love yours though. I was severly inpressed when I got it.

One more thing, just make sure you take the time to actually thoroughly learn to use the camera. There are alot of things that it can do, but Nikon's menu systems can be rather confusing if you're not paying attention.
