Default OT, kind of: Testing JDM HID headlights?

I just bought a set of used JDM HID headlights and I am not going to be installing them until springtime. So I was wondering what the best way to test is, just to make sure that they work fine.
I was thinking of just running a hot and ground from the HID portion to the battery, that should do it. Is this a bad idea? Would it fry anything that anyone could think of?

If you want to be extra safe, you can use a power wire with an in-line fuse, but you should be fine without one.

7.5 or 10 amp should be fine for testing a single ballast.

You could use an inline fuse, and that is a good idea. However, it isn't needed. The ballast has everything you need built into it. Actually, from the ballast to the bulb, the power is increased to get the fillament in the bulb up and running properly. If you wanted to take safety precautions when you put the kit in the car in the Spring, the inline fuse isn't a bad idea at all. I do this with anything that converts power, to insure I don't burn my car to the ground. Cheap insurance and piece of mind that people wont be showing up for the "bon fire" your having in your drive way.

Aloha,
Brandon

well there is a fuse under the dash for the headlights, but I am talking about bypassing that temporarily before I install them, just to check if they work.

Just take the two wires from the HID unit and touch them to the battery. Be sure to make contact once with the battery and not flicker the power.

Hold it on there until your happy with the lights working or not.

Rather simple.

If you have a plug and play HID setup then plug it in put the light bulb in the socket and turn the switch on and watch.
