Default Type - S Cams on a stock Valvetrain

Searched.

I remember a thread about 6 months ago with no conclusion. Can you run the type-s cams on a stock valvetrain with daily driven reliability? Or is upgrading the valvetrain a must when swapping these cams?

You will be fine on stock valvetrain as long as you dont rev over stock rev limit.

If an upgraded valvetrain wasn't necessary then why is the Type S valvetrain different ? It doesn't rev past 7400. I cant really give a definitive answer. Maybe the wrong valvetrain could cause advanced wear on the cams/rockers or possibly even cam failure. I honestly do not know.

I would go with the type S valvetrain with the type S cams.

While we are on this Type S topic, anyone know for SURE if type S cams and junk pass CA Smog ?

Yea if you wanna be safe get the type s valvetrain, but there are people running the type s cams on stock valvetrain. I reccomend upgrading with aftermarket springs bc you will probably make power to 7k area. I wish i would have upgraded my valvetrain on my stage 1 cams bc i made power to 7.5k, it would be nice to rev to 8k and land higher in my powerband. Its gonna get done soon.

heres a stupid question: will the type-s head fit a base block?
if so wouldn't that be best? if you were going with type-s cams.

I guess, but i'm sure finding just the cams would be cheaper and easier than trying to find an entire head.
