In-car camera setup & scanner antenna mount....
Constructed from aluminum "bullnose"/chair railing used in commercial buildings...simply drilled two holes for the head rest and one for the cheap tripod and then put the end caps on. After a few minutes of debating where to put the scanner antenna I figured this was the best place...took it apart to drill a hole for a BNC elbow and another hole in the endcap to run the wire. Installed the connectors and ran the wire to the back of the scanner (had to cut a little to get the scanner to fit under the headunit)

AND Yes, that would be an airtank...No, it is not Naaawssss! (just imagine a bunch of big block rednecks asking that all the time). The little portable compressors are wayyy too slow so I drilled two holes in the plate that covers the wires going to/from the fuel tank and ran two bolts through it sticking up through the carpet to mount to. There were already holes in the feet of the airtank so just had to drill two 1/8" holes in the bolts so it could be held on with hitchpins. It doesn't rattle or move and now don't have to worry about being killed by it if I hit something. Great for the track and dragstrip when people need air after playing.
The interior is stripped to fit a cage...planning to put all the interior back in but going to insulate everything first. Have yet to find the perfect light weight insulation though. The cage is going to be sprayed satin black along with the airtank.
Comments, suggestions, laughter, go for it...

It doesn't move or vibrate unless you are doing some seriously harsh shifting, I've probably made 100 vids like this one...everything from drag to autocrossing. The tripod head did loosen a little during that run though but was easily fixed with a little thread lock.

Was running tokico shocks and intrax springs when that video was made. I'll load some with the Tein Flex...it's almost like a completely differant car. Able to safely take better lines, perfect understeer w/ very little sliding (rearend comes out a little more though)

but im confused about compressor in back.... you race with it in?</TD></TR></TABLE>no, too much weight...but I did place it in front of the rear wheels so it doesn't mess the balance too bad. When autocrossing you normally have a pile of misc. stuff thats been pulled out of the car so it's not really that big of a deal...I hate not being prepared for everything so I always carry a small bag of tools, factory manual, quart of oil, towel, pair of gloves, etc. in the spare tire well (can't use a donut because the car would drag so why not use that space for something useful.)
oh yeah, it's not a compressor...just an airtank. But I do have a small 12V factory Porsche air compressor that came OEM in the 944 Turbo's.
I also have a slight crack in one wheel so I constantly have to put air in it...never tried welding a wheel so I just pulled the tire off and filled it from the inside with JB Weld but a week later I hit one of those wonderful 1.5" steel plates our DOT is well known to throw down instead of actually finishing a job. Stupid me left the bad wheel on the front so it absorbed most of the impact...now it's on the rear but still have to put air in it.

</TD></TR></TABLE>who says I didn't? :-) I've had a handheld scanner since I was 16...but got this base model at a pawn shop for like $25 several years ago. Had it in my 300zx originally then put it in the Land Rover just for fun. Been wanting to put this one in the teg since I bought the car...just never got around to it until now.
Tempted to get a cheap FM broadcaster so other people can tune into it on there own stereo.

I never thought I would make a legitimate reference to the movie but in F&F the VW dude knew when to roll because they heard the dispatch report "street racing" to all the officers in that area...I'm not into racing like that but that's exactly how it works. It also helps with knowing where accidents are to plan an alternate route and I've used it twice this week just for that (100 mile commute everyday).
All this probably sounds boring but you get to hear police chases, shootings, etc. as they are happen. Just remember they are illegal in most western states...might even be "unlawful" here too but I've never had a problem with it.

sounds cool. when i was like 12 i used to listen on the 900mhz bands to my neighbors phone calls, lol. back when cordless phones didnt have any protection on them... sounds cool, and definitely an interesting idea.

yea. and use 2 hands on the wheel d00d. not trying to lecture, just saying.
i love the mount btw. where did you get the tripod head thing? I've been looking for one without having to pay a fortune for one.

I live in n GA too and it isn't like he is the only one up there doing that... Every weekend packs of motorcycles haul *** through there and so do cars, families know the dangers and so do the police but they cause more harm than good by patrolling/sitting in through there. There isn't anywhere to pull anyone over in there so they can't exactly give out tickets very well.
I like your car man. The only think I'm not too sure about is the bodykit, but other than that, its nice. You might see me around gainesville sometime if your ever around here, I have white 99 gsr with a carbon fiber hood, black headlights, black blinkers... thats about it for the exterior. (I like it clean) I think we'd be pretty close in a race though...

I've been driving that same road and all the others up there for over 7 years...if you have both hands on the steering wheel then you lose valuable time if you have to do an emergency downshift. On the track everyone is going the same direction, don't have people on bicycles, and usually don't have many stray animals wondering in front of you. I can maneuver around most things but when you have a bike lay down or car loop it in front of you coming head on then you need to be ready for anything. Driving with both hands then you have to rely on your brakes until you can get to downshifting....you touch the brakes resulting in all the weight shifting forward then you lose all hope of handling or steering around something. You wouldn't apply this logic to a track but so far it's been successful on the street.
The tripod was $20 from Wolf Camera and I simply unscrewed the legs and mounted it to the aluminum.

Is that a logical "argument"? No.
"But mom, ALL my friends are doing it!"
Oh, okay, in THAT case go right ahead

appaerntly you ppl havent seen to many ga mountain runs. even the bikes do triple digits up there (ask me how i know, i build the bikes that run up there) import atlanta has regular mountain runs, its something that the people in the ga mountains are used to.
haha, in nc we have deals gap..........same thing. highway 276 is the same too.
ppl know what goes on, if they don't like it...they can take a different route.
oh, and it's funny.....probally 99% of the accidents on deals gap are due to the cops trying to chase someone...and it's usually the cop that wrecks.
