Does anyone have an old or extra harness bar lying around that they would be interested in parting with? I need to get me one sometime and the big B-day is this weekend so I thought about making it a nice present to ME from Me... lol
Thanks guys...
Thanks guys...
Yup - my cous is a machinist & made a b-pillar bar for me. $35+shipping. SOLID freak'n steel too. No adjustments necessary if you want it.
I use a c-pillar bar now for schmancy camera choices
Just shoot me an email at jeff@nocoastracing.com
I think the expo is enough of a vouch for me

If you get a roll over your going to introduce your head to your ******* when the roof collapses and you have no where to go, because your strapped into your harnesses.
Harness bars are dangerous. You can get a cage for about the same price as a name brand harness bar.
Aloha,
Brandon

I agree 100% based on observation and anecdotal evidence.
But, I have never heard of/seen such an incident. Neither a rollover with a harness bar, nor a rollover with 4/5-pt harnesses going to the rear seatbelts.
YMMV.

This is a topic that keeps coming up on H-T. I'm not sure if it is group think or if it is real. I did a ton of research a few weeks ago about this topic and came up with conflicting results. Most places that talk about how bad a harness without a cage are online forums - people like us sharing opinions. I'm wary of group think
But I also found many organizers of HPDE events, experienced drivers (hell, the drivers in EVO magazine and on 5th Gear drive cars with a harness on no cage on the track), and others with the opinion that a 4pt harness with no cage is not reallly a problem.
Still internally debating but ready to just accept what I read on the Internet when their is evidence to the contrary.

Shane,
If you wnat to have one fab'd up, shoot user Engloid a PM. He is apparently a very good fab guy and lives in Knoxville.
You better be going to Expo with all this stuff you're putting on the car. You can come in the SE caravan that will depart from the Colonial Heights Wal-Mart.
On the safety side of it. Don't wear the harness on the street and you'll be fine. I wouldn't wear it on the track either if you don't have a roll bar.

Read the NASA CCR and you will come away with a better understanding.
I have seen a couple of incidents (both BMW coupes) where there would have been a fatality if the occupants had been wearing harnesses.
If you still don't believe, come with me to a NASA event. I will introduce you to Jim Politi and explain your question, and while he rails at you I will have already run away.

I'm not sure with whom you're dealing, but you should tell us so that we know who doesn't know what he's doing.
In the case of harnesses without rollover protection, NASA member-lawyers believe the problem is so profound that no waiver would protect the organisation.
If you locate an organisation that will allow you onto a hot track with harnesses and no rollover protection, you should know that you are taking your life in your hands in a way that most responsible organisers and most experienced drivers would simply not allow.
I hate to sound like a rules ****, but like the NASA lawyers, I also believe that the issue is profoundly obvious and intolerable.

Wow.
Considering that both of my observed incidents concerned BMW coupes, I'm especially amazed.
There's even an extant NASA joke about the "famous collapsible roof" on the BMW coupes before the current generation.

Harness bars are only good for driver posistion durring an auto-x, they are not for any sort of street. Harness bars are not only not a safety device they could be a danger.
And this is comming from a guy who makes & sells them.
Edit-
Not only that but the market for harness bars makes buying a 4 pt roll bar so much more appealing. Sparco bars are what like $350-$399 while a 4pt (from us or even autopower) is less than $100 more...
