Default buying an S, need advice

Im looking at 4 different S2000s so far.
What are you guys opinions on which to buy and why, thanks
Right now I have $12,500 to go toward the car plus my del sol. Would be financing the rest.

Also, if you have any advice on things for me to look for when buy that would be very helpful too.

Thanks,
james

No options

Without a doubt... #2

- Dealership car so potential warranty
- Lowest mileage
- Good price for mileage
- Assuming the dealership is reputible, it was checked over before being sold

...that would be my choice anyways. Only thing i see about it is that it has the plastic rear window, which i wouldnt prefer but you might not care...i might hold out to find another dealership selling a 2002.

#4 is appealing due to the glass rear window, but others can be retrofitted.

low milage and warranty adds to the plate. #1 and #2 are at the top of the list. with #2, you are adding in the wind deflector (standard instead of an add-on), a clock in the factory radio, and an in-trunk-release in case you get stuck in there.

I would opt for #4.

-Glass rear window

But, if you can live with the plastic rear window, and the hassle of a black car, then #2 is the better option I think....

<---- Hates the plastic window, but deals with it

The glass rear window isn't that important to me, I dont remember the last time I had my roof on my del sol, so the top wont be up much.
Although the blue is nice. Do people have problems with the blue interior?
All the red interiors I sew looked bad.

I dont really care about wind deflector, clock, or trunk release.

Most of my concerns are with the miles, price, and if I should be buying from a dealer or private owner(which I can see how the treat the car and how they keep it)
Alough it would be nice to be able to trade in my car.

From what I've seen #1 is kept very well by the owner.
But with #2 there are so few miles I cant see there being too many problems, but I guess they could have killed it in the 11,000 miles they had it.

Is there anything else I should be looking for in these cars?

Blue interior is fine. But IMO, the mis-matched blue hues make it look kinda girlie. This is just my opinion though. I would favor the blue interior much more if it were with a black exterior.

The red interiors are fine, but they look odd because of the mis-matched color with the leather seats and the carpet. The carpet, if swapped to black, would look just fine.

I'd have to vouch for lower miles to be your best alternative. If you vouch for #4, you are paying a premium for higher milage on a newer car. While a friend of mine does have an 02 that he will be selling soon in spa yellow. Lots of mods, which most were removed this past Sunday, and only 12K miles. Only thing that will stay mod-wise is the AEM CAI & mugen 3 piece rear spoiler. Alarm with remote windows, and double locks. (Clifford IG8000) I'm unsure of the ballpark, but it might be near what you are looking for.

The other thing is #2 is really dirty outside, but perfect inside.
Obviously the dealer hasnt cleaned it yet, but I havent been able to see the paint well compared to #1 which was waxed.

The options are nice, but not too important.

from what you guys are saying, I should go with #2 over #1.

Is there anything big that should be pusing me toward the '02 other than the window?

#2 or #4.

#4 b/c of the glass window. but then again, i oppted out of getting a blue S b/c of the all blue int. just too much blue to me.

both will come with the extended 100,000mile warranty if you buy it from Honda.

I know what you mean about the all blue.
#4 is from a honda dealership, but #2 is from a Hundai dealer.

Are you sure about the extended warranty, and how much?

If the exterior of #2 is so dirty to where you cant tell how the paint is, tell them the deciding factor in purchasing it is seeing it emaculate, i doubt they will argue with you a bit and will probobly get it waxed up withen a few hours of oyu saying it.

I still say #2 cause you said you dont care much about the plastic window and that to me is really the only decided factor between the 2000-2003 (besides mileage and quality of course)

If #2 only has 11,000miles on it, im sure that they will offer you a warranty on it, i dont know for certain but i dont see why any dealer wouldnt.

If the honda dealer one though is certified though, that is a VERY good thing.

Honda certified doesn't always mean much. My Ep3 ran into the back of another car and ended up with $5k plus in damage. It was fixed at the dealer where I bought it, the same dealer where I traded it. When I traded, it got "Honda certified".

i would still go with the honda certified used car. if anything goes wrong, you can just bring it back. at least that's how my honda dealership works. they take care of their people.

I understand your point terd ferguson, but im not quite sure how this makes it any less certified? An accident can indeed lower the value of the car, but any joe off the street can have a CarFax report printed at a big dealership...the certified portion would cover the car if ANYTHING happened to it...therefore to me, the certified honda deal is plenty worth it and everything it says it is...because if something wrong comes to the car because of the accident it was involved in, according to the certified honda warranty, they will fix it at no charge to you and put you into a rental if need be.

So yes...i still believe that the certified hondas mean VERY much.

I got my S2000 from a Honda dealer. It is a Honda certified used car. I have the 100k extended warranty. I bought an 01 with 48k miles. It now has only 56k miles. They wouldn't fix the TSB 054 clutch buzz problem a week after purchase. Now they are refusing to fix a hole in my top that is clearly the result of a defect from the latch rubbing a hole in it. So, as far as my experience goes, Honda Certified and extended warranty doesn't amount to much.

BTW, this is my third Honda from the same dealer and all oil changes were done at the dealer (only $9.99 for any Honda. its cheaper than I can buy the oil and filter for!). Warranty decisions are American Honda decisions, not dealer decisions. Your dealer/customer relationship doesn't have much bearing on whether or not your warranty claim is approved or denied.

First, go to an on-line service and check to see if it's been worked by the ins. co., then drive it! If it seems too loud on down shift deceleration, have a mech. check.

#4 is off the list now.

So its down to either #2 or #1.

I am going to go talk to the dealership about #2 and see if they can get me what I ask for it.

I am putting down $12500, plus about $1000 for my trade hopefully(its really only worth about $500 or so)

So after taxes I am wanting to get it for around $20000($400 less than what they are asking) - $12500 down = $7500 financed.

Should I ask for more off?

Also, what should I look for while I am there?

What should I ask about while I am there?

Thanks

U can find others. If i were you get a new one, but if u still dont want a new one go buy one from a older person. There are tons of older drivers you can buy s2k's from. +'s if u buy from a dealer you know u losing 2-3 g's right there. But private party u can offer and let them chose. Good luck.

How long have you been looking? Take your time find something you really really like and go for it. Both sound like good deals, but I'm sure you could find a S2k for less with about the same #s. Old guys sell them all the time, especially during the winter.

I live in Florida, we dont have a winter, average price around here is $22000-23000.
So the $20000 price is a few g's cheaper than average around here.

I kinda want to get it soon, I want to have it all paid off by the time I graduate college in 1.5 years.

I've been looking for a few weeks now, looked at about 20 or so.

Blue book for #2 is about $20,300 personal and $22,600 retail, so I figure if I get it for $20,000 and $1,000 to $1,200 for my car(not worth that much) its a good deal.

Should I be looking for a lower price?
