Axle nut from hell (searched already)
Im trying to change my axles out and can not get the axle nut to give for anything.Ive got an impact thats supposed to be rated at 500lbs and I cant get it off. I tried a breaker bar with 4ft pipe on the end of it and ended up breaking it. Ive unsteaked the nut and I dont see how none of these things has worked. Its not reverse threaded or anything is it? Im about to just give up and take it somewhere and pay for them to break them loose for me. Im just wanting any comments anyone has on this and if anyone has taken it somewhere to have them broken what they were charged.
What size drive was the breaker bar that you broke? I've never had a problem using a 1/2" drive breaker bar with the 1/2" drive 33mm (or whatever) sized socket. If it was the 1/2" drive that broke on you, get a 3/4" drive bar and socket. That would not break.
Do it all with the wheel on the car. Also try applying a little heat and jumping on the breaker bar. Using the above method, I have never run into a CV nut that I couldn't break loose.

I did it with a 1/2. I used a propane torch( I know its not that hot but it was around the house) and put it on quickly and hoped on it a few times. Heared a creek and got excited in the hopes that something was moving only to find a half second later it was the breaker bar.

ok get wd-40 like the dude earlier said, spray it all over, take it for a drive around to just about the axle and the nut to warm up (dont get it hot), and make you snap out the metal that lock on the axle? gl
My trick with any nut that won't come off is to heat the nut itself up good with the good old handy propane torch. When it's nice and hot, take the flame away and soak the threads in penetrating lube or wd40, then quickly take the breaker bar to it with all force.
get a longer bar, more leverage.
I have a 21" breaker bar and one time I had to put a 6 foot pipe on the end and stand at the other end with a friend keeping the bar centered on the bolt to bust that bitch loose.

why break expensive tools when you can get a dremel and cut it off. D and B series all share the same size axle nut. you can find one for free from the junk yard

on the same topic of bitch *** bolts, and nuts.. once i couldn't get a crank pully bolt out, i broke a 1/2 breaker bar also.. ended up getting no where with a 1/2 drive impact..
so i had to result in using a 3/4 drive.. hahaha, you should of seen the socket.. it barley fit in the crank pully hole.. lol

You did try putting the wheel on and lowering the car off the jack stands back onto the ground? I would take a hammer to it one or twice, you are going to be replacing everything anyway. Get a good breaker bar, one that if you break it will be replaced for free. Good luck.

I put it all back together and put the rim on without the centercap.
I went down the raod to big ten tires, and had them hit it withthe impact gun
we then tightened it up (not too tight), and I drove home where I took it off and finished.
Didn't cost a dime.

Put the tire back on and have someone step on the brakes. Use the 3/4 breaker bar and also use a hollow metal fence pole (3" in diameter and about 6' tall). Slide the breaker bar into the metal fence pole and turn while apply brake pressure. It will loosen without any problems.
710 ft-lb impact didn't work this weekend. Neither did a 4 foot cheater bar.
I ended up grinding the top corner of the nut off, then got it off with an impact. Replaced it with an new nut and all is good.

I had the impact at about 95psi. Yeah every time I tried, I had the car on the ground with the brakes on and the centercaps off and the tire still on. Thanks for all the replies guys.
