Fior safety reasons alone I would Not get 195/50-15.

If money is a problem, and you're willing to sacrifice a little performance for a less expensive tire, I would suggest the Yokohama ES100. The ES100 costs 1.2-1.3 cents per mile. On a cost-per-mile basis, the Falken Azenis RT-215 costs about the same as the RE010, about 3.0 cents per mile; even though the purchase price is lower, it gets about 40 percent fewer miles, on average with similar usage. For additional comments about the ES100, check out this topic which is already in progress.
The S-03 is an excellent tire, and lasts a lot longer than the Falken, but the 195/50-15 size is 3.3 percent smaller than stock, so your speedometer
and odometer
will read 3.3 percent higher than actual.
Additional considerations: If you'll be driving in the rain much, which you probably do in New Jersey, the ES100 and S-03 are the best of these four tires in the rain, and the Falken is the worst. If you're going to take the car to autocrosses or track events, then the S-03 and the Falken are your best bets.
Interesting topic; we've never discussed it here before. Thanks for bringing it up.

Edit, Azenis are Dry Traction kings, do you have snow tires I hope? This storm (Chicago) is probably coming your way. Well, it'll be rain by then.

The precipitation we're expecting here in Chicago today and tomorrow is supposed to be rain, not snow. I wouldn't use ANY of these tires in snow. And they won't stick very well in frigid temperatures, even if the roads are dry - not as well as winter tires do.
Frigid temperatures, anyone?
Wednesday - High 51 degrees F, low 31
Thursday - High 31, low 0
Friday - High 8, low -4
Saturday - High 3, low -7
Sunday - High 2, low -5
Monday - High 13, low 13

I heard that too-- but then I got 5 inches of heavy snow on my driveway this morning. I had to plow it to get out. 30-40 miles north of you.

load rating is not sufficient. That and the 195/50 s-03's track very badly, going every which way with any little bump in the road.

Not here. All rain, with some freezing rain. That's what the forecast says for Milwaukee, too (although perhaps they are thinking it's rain when they're actually just seeing the tears of Packers fans crying
).
For other observers - I'm just north of the Chicago city limits, and Milwaukee is 90 miles north of Chicago.

I got the Yoko AVS-ES100's after the first original set of tires. They worked really well, but not as well as the original set. I helped break them in with an autocross as well, but even after, they still didn't feel quite as grippy as the original. More importantly, they work well in the rain too. Cost for cost though, they were a bargain, tirerack.com is where i ordered from.
I wish I had the chance to try out the Azenis's, especially with autox-ing....however, but I guess that will be my next purchase depending on if I can afford to have another car and keep the Civic as the summer car... .... that sounds sad....Civic + Summer car...same sentence...ergh, that's a brain fart...

5 inches.. damn. We had 1.5 inches or so... (in nbk) of awesome snowball/snowman snow. Most likely because of the rain we got this morning after the snowfall. Not the kind of snow that is easy to shovel

Chris - who was suprised to see a good amount of snow after all the reports and warnings of ice.

Do what I did, buy a beater.
My 91 DX with 142,XXX miles cost me just over $900 after tax, title, license and then it has some crappy tires. Cheap as hell to maintain and run. Plus over the past two year's I've actually SAVED money by insuring the Honda 6-7 month's a year and it's so much cheaper than my lowly GSR that I'm starting to make money versus where I woulda been. Then get some tires like me.... the BADASS National XG3000's
Balla 175/70-R 13's
With that bein said on my teg I got the Azenis which are GOD. The grip is UNBELIEVEABLE and for the price HOW can you beat them.

I have yet to experience the Yokahama ES100 or S-03. With that said, I can only have a biased opinion in going with the RE010. Does it's job good

Well since there will be almost no rain RT-215 Azenis for sure. If you got a beater it would make it even nicer though.

Same here, they have been fabulous thus far and have been on the car since she was born, thats over 23k ! Although I've been weary driving re010's in heavy down pours with such minimal tread left.

I like my Azenis alot.
In my R, I Auto-X regularly, Drag race a few times a year and do HPDE's as often as possible.
With my little experience in all type's of racing except drag racing I love the Azenis.
Great grip in all seasons but winter
If you plan on driving in the snow at all you shouldn't get the Azenis. IMO they are dangerous to have on any car in the snow/slush. They do pretty well in the rain however, within limits. If you drive like an *** in the rain you put yourself at risk no matter what tire you have.
Best thing for you I think is to buy my spare Type-R wheels and do whatever you want with them
