ECU, i have heard that for my gen of accords after driving for a while the ecu will remember the driving habbits and set the vtec rpm higher then normal. Which they say is 4 and a half im think.... SoOo car is passed down to me and im sure they have been easy on that motor.
anyone? please? its a freaking auto and controling the rpm is a bitch, hell i cant even control it really. Redline is at 6.5 i would hate to have vtec hit around 5.5

IT COMES ON VARIABLY....
you can almost redline it w/o being in vtec, and you can get it to engage really now in a stick.....
jsut dosconnect your battery for 15 min, then reconect, start it back up, and then let it idle for a few minutes....you should be good to go

i think you got it backward
take off the NEGATIVE batter lead(you dont have to pull both) put it back on after TEN SECONDS or so(you dont have to wait, you have to wait if you pull the fuse out, and you have to pump the brake panel too) connect it back and crank the car, turn off cd player, amp, dvd or whatever ICE you have.
Let it idle for 10 min.(no rev)
take my words for it

For your own good I suggest you do a search on VTEC and learn how it works. It can be activated by oil pressure at any time and when its on its on...it switches in and out constantly. You "reset" the VTEC system every time you shut off the car and lose oil pressure. The ECU doesn't have a default RPM or anthing that it goes by, instead it takes into account RPM and throttle to name a few. Yes the ECU does learn and map itself initially, but you set it and forget it. You don't have to reset it if you go on a leisurly highway drive for example.

as i said the car has just been passed down, and i know they dont step on the gas. I am aware of how vtec works i was just concerned about the cognitive behavor of the ECU. I want to get off on a fresh start
thanks for the refresher

this is supposedly from a factory service manual.
1. Engine Speed: 2300~3200 RPM (depending on manifold pressure)
2. Vehicle Speed: 6.2mph (10 km/h) or faster
3. Engine Coolant Temperature: 50 degrees (10 celcius) or higher
4. Engine Load: Judged by intake manifold negative pressure
dont worry about what rpms you're at.
please dont say 'hit vtec' again.
its a wimpy little 5th gen motor, you're not going to feel it 'hit'.
if you want to have something 'hit' get going. put your foot down, and let your autotranny kick down a gear. when this happens shout 'vtec' at the top of your lungs.

doesnt work for one thing... kuz my vtec system timing is all off and kills auto trannys..!!
In my 98 accord i got vtec to engage at 2,300 all the way to redline, its usefull at times but sometimes i do redline and it never comes on, i usley force it too, by pressing on the gas in certen ways, now i think my crappy tranny is skipping again! its only been a month sence i got it out the shop! it fells like it. its trying to grab on a 2nd gear while im light on the pedel..doesnt make sense?
