Yeah man, they do have the same problems. The thieves sill just want the Recaros gearknob and the Steering wheel.
And if they were lucky enough to get one that had a few mods.. theyre usualy gone too.
I visit a Japanese damages vehicle auction site frequently and most of the ITR's they have are Stolen/recovered. Ov course minus the seats at least.
Strangely one only lost the Drivers side.. disturbed in action i bet.

JDM people don't care much for Type Rs; there are plenty of other cars out there that are better. In a land where space is very limited you end up getting (sometimes small) economical, boxy cars that maximize the amount of room inside the car. Such examples are Nissan cube, Toyota's Vitz and many variants of Scion-ish cars, and yes even Honda makes something called "That's" which resembles the Scion xB. In Japan, you are either filthy rich and you can afford to drive a Mercedes or any other high end car; or you live and work outside of Tokyo and own an economical car; or you live outside of Tokyo and take the rail system to work in Tokyo.
Overall the Japanese culture is very different. They are much cleaner, more respectful, and honest than the average American (not saying all Americans are like this). A very minute percentage of their people would actually think of stealing a car.
I dropped a $800 digital camera while visiting Tokyo, someone found it and I was altered over the PA system was alterted that someone had lost a camera and it was turned in. If I had dropped that same camera if I was anywhere else in the US, the chances that I would ever get it back would be slimmer.
From my own personal experience from visiting and living in Japan, I would highly doubt that a Type R, of all cars there would be stolen.

I know this, I was simply responding to your sarcasm.

Here in Ireland JDM imports are a huge business due to our very easy re-registration laws (basically the car arrives here, you pay the customs a % of the price of it and get a registration number, transfer your insurance on to it and you can drive it home totally legal, no modifications needed) anyway a good friend of mine is in the business and we go to dublin port on a regular basis to pick up JDM cars (mainly high end evo's, WRX/STi's some skylines and loads of ITRs/civic etc etc) and i have yet to see one car in the last 5 or 6 years that has an alarm fitted to it. He picked up a highly modified proven 530bhp R33 GTR a year back and i was shocked to find it had only a nissan immobiliser and nothing else, i put it down to the fact the car crime in japan must be near enough non existent!
I've been in Japan now for almost two years and have yet to hear an alarm go off or be set. I don't live near Tokyo but car theft is nearly zero in my prefecture at least. Most people leave their cars running and unlocked when they go into a convenience store, bank, or post office. They call it aidolingu stoppu
. I think if I went around the supermarket parking lot, I would find about 30% of the cars to be unlocked!

I am from ireland too and i ahve to say i am not to worried about my car getting stolen for parts here it doesnt seem to happen much. What i am worried about would joy riders robbing it just to give it a good thrashing and then probably burn it out. So straight away when i bought it i fitted an alarm then i bought a snap off steering wheel( which comes in the house every night with me) and i also park my girlfriends jeep behind it everynight just to be on the safe side.
