Flux is a material that burns in the weld, releasing gasses that shield the weld. Mig is Metal Inert Gas....in which you put a gas through the mig gun that shields the weld. Mig will be cleaner and provide more versatility for you.

The second, more expensive one will do everything the cheaper one will do...and more.

Both machines are cheap junk, really. No offense, just stating the truth. If these machines were good, companies like Hobart, Miller, and Lincoln would not be able to get 4 times as much for their machines.

These HF machines are like the old 200amp Pyramid amps that were the size of a cigarette pack. You know...they never won any stereo competitions with them In fact, the stereos were cleaner without an amp than one of those junkers.

Personally, I'd reccomend saving up and getting a Hobart Handler 135 or 175. Either of these machines will last you long beyond the day you get a much nicer machine. I couldn't tell you how many people have these machines, and use them regularly....but have Dynasty machines in their shop also.

flux is bad! haha, I used it for a while before I got enough for a nice mig setup now I want a tig setup. flux is good for practice but is terrible looking, bunch of gumballs all over the place! YUK! anyway, go with a good mig setup, its worth the extra cash trust me! good luck

You can make a nice weld with a flux, but you always get the flux splatter all over the weld surface, and it doesn't make for a very clean looking weld, But they have to be the most portable welder, and work really well on small jobs like welding yard equipment back together. Things that don't have to have good appearances.

i've used mig and own a cheep flux. mig is the way to go but i will never part with my flux just becasue you can take it around with no gas tanks. i can lay down some nice beads with it but it take more pratice to get it right compaired to a migger
