I just bought a full head that is disassembled for $50. It's a h23 and I plan on have it p/p and a 3angle valve job. My question is.....does anyone know what kind of gains to expect? I am going to upgrade to skunk 2 cams after its done and also some cam gears and new springs/retainers and valves. Does anyone have any suggestions on a setup or brands to go with? The shop I'm going to charges $300 for a 3 angle valve job....does that sound reasonable? I'm new to the whole motor building world so I'm trying to get some good info from some good sources. Thanks in advance for the help!

 

Gains on the P&P work you might see 10 hp.

 

that is if the person porting and polishing your head is competent and knows what they are doing.

 

What about getting the valves done and a set of cams? I am probably going to drop the head off next week to get the valve job done..i have to call and find the guy who does the porting and polishing.

just because its 300 does not mean its a good deal!! Is it going to be flow benched before and after? So you know the results. The guy that did my head charges 400 to disassemble,clean, and do the the valve and seat work. That is what I did first before I had him go all out. Just by doing that he was able to get the head to flow 347cfm on a h22 head. If you want his number I would be more than happy to give it to you. He is on of the guys that was involved with Chryslers 1 billion dollar research on heads and exhaust flow. Hes the best I know of!!! Able to gain over 80hp on just porting and head work on a stock busa! (hes killer with bikes!)
