Vtec
it depends on airflow, throttle position, altitude and a couple other things....
just think of it kicking in at 6k.... sometimes it'll kick in at 5800 but you wont' know the difference.. and sometimes in high altitude areas its possible that it won't kick in till 6800rpms....
best way to tell.. is drive it..... floor it.. and when you feel the kick/and the differnt sound comming from the exhaust..... then you know it's changed from low cam to high cam and you're in vtec.. ...

not necessarily... in a civic you'll be able to rev up into the vtec range. it might not fully kick in, but you can get it to that area. it'll go into vtec as long as the oil temperatures are up.... (oil temperature is a part of how vtec works)
in the s2000 it stops at 6000rpms while the car is not warmed up because it's got a dual stage rev limiter.... cause our cars revs up so high it's very bad if we string it out to 9000rpms when the car is still cold and hasn't completely lubricated properly...... so when the car is cold it'll stop it at 6000rpms.....
easiest way to judge.. just make sure you got 3 bars on your temperature guage ...

04+ need 5 bars i believe (or is it 7)..their guage is different from 00-03

so the 04+don't havea dual stage rev limiter

It does...its just above 6K, im not sure where it hits exactly, never really paid attention i just know that the first time i realized it, it hit 6K and kept going, i was like "Uhh...vtec? Where are you?"

in mine if the temps are not up, my car will bog down if i try to go past 6k. its like i hit the rev limiter (maybe bog down isn't the right word choice buy you know what i mean)

i've done it a couple of times not realizing it hahahah. (when i first got the car) hahaha.. i was like what the F(#K is that ****. hahahaha..
