Default roof is leaking

i have a 97 civic and the roof is leaking on the front passenger side. on the inside, the lining is a little torn, but on the outside, the windshield seals and rain gutter looks fine.
not really sure what i should do or how to check on it without ruining anything.

anyone else have this problem or a solution?

no, just on the inside, the carpet part is wet.

You might be leaking from the firewall or a hole in the floor if it's just the carpet that's wet.

I WONDER WHAT THE **** IS WRONG

hehe, just replace the lining, cheap, and does it's job of sealing out water.

The "lining" as in the headliner? It doesn't make sense that the roof is leaking from hear unless the "lining" somehow refers to the windshield seal being a little torn...

i meant the lining as in the carpet type material inside the cabin, i checked the windshield seal on the outside and it seems to be ok, so i dont know why it would be leaking inside then

Do you see it dripping from the roof during the rain?

Here's what you do then... take the entire headliner down and right out of the car. Then bring your flashlight into the car, close all the windows and doors and have a friend spray the area that you suspect is leaking. As he/she is spraying the car, you'll be inside looking at the roof and area with your flashlight. You'll find your leak pretty quickly this way.

It can be taken out without ripping it. Take your sunvisors off, rear view mirror (if it attaches to the roof, not the windshield,) all the plastic panals that overlap the headliner (for example the b pillar panal,) the interior light(s) and the holy **** handles. On some models there are two plastic retainers on the outside of the headliner behind the middle interior light on either side (Ek's have this, others I'm not sure). This will allow the headliner to be dropped down without ripping or tearing it. At this time, you will also be able to clean those water stains off it... don't use any harsh cleaners though because it would seperate the cloth from the underpad.
