Default Rod Knock or Piston slap?

I have a 92 civic hatch. every time that i cold start my car i have this noticable knocking noise. once the car warms up the knocking pretty much goes away. you can barely hear if you bend down and try to pay attention to it. But on cold starts you can hear it. I am not throwing and codes and i am not burning any oil. i have a stock d15b by the way. I have been driving my car this way for about 5 months. any help?

well if you can barely hear it when you bend down to listen to it, i would just say that it is a normal noise, especially if your car is stock. but how many miles are on it?

i know that it is not a normal noise because when i cold start my car everyone ask why it makes that noise. it only goes away once the car has fully warmed up. The car has 176k but engine was changed at 144k. I don't know how many miles the d15b has cause i bought it that way.

probably from the lack of oil in the engine where the pump pumps it to

no no no when you first start the car, the oil has settled in the oil pan from sitting and not being pumped through the engine. therefor it is like not having any oil in it at al which would cause a low knocking noise until oil has been pumped thouroly(sp?) throughout the engine and coats everything

but the knocking doesn't go away for about 5 minutes until the engine has warmed up. it is not only on start up for a couple of seconds then goes away. it stays for a while. as soon as the engine warms up you can bearly hear it at all but is still there.

Might be your valve lash. Do you happen to know last time your valve lash was adjusted, if ever?
