Default lsvtec oil leaking bad! from headgasket??

a friend just got his ls vtec setup put together he has a 93 ls block with a 00 si head. he bought a new 93 ls headgasket and there is still oil leaking from the head. we took out the dowel pins and it still leaks. can any one tell me what might be the problem with this setup?? the oil feed for the si head is clogged and the new oil feed doesnt leak at all. its coming from another source. can anyone tell me what source or atleast what source they think it might be?? thanks alot guys!!!

Check the rivets that hold the layers of the head gasket together.Sometimes one will end up between the head and block holding the head up.You can take them off the gasket if they hit.

Headgaskets installed upside-down have been known to cause these sorts of leaks...

I had this problem on an LS-VTEC I did, and from what I can figure out, the fitting for the feed line in the head wasn't threaded in enough, and oil was leaking there. I didn't get enough time to fix it, I put the LS head back on. Since the head uses a different thread size than most stuff you get, there's a chance that the fitting isn't threading in far enough. In my case, it was like 3 turns...

How much oil is leaking????
I am pretty sure that you need the dowels to line up the head properly and so it doesn't move around and leak where it shouldn't. Next, I would check to make sure that it is not a leak from the Vtec solenoid or the distributor O-ring. Then try the vavle cover gasket and cam plug on the distibutor side on the exhaust cam. Then I would've tried the oil plug on the bottom of the Si head. Then replace the head gasket after all of these things were ok. Try what I suggested and hopefully it will fix your problem. Good luck.

we checked all the things you suggested and the head gasket is brand new! we ran it with dowel pins....it leaks....ran it w/o dowels.....it leaks (not as much) we ran the car for about and house yesterday and it seems to lessen a bit....so we'll see what happens today...what are we supposed to plug on the head?

There is a little hole that is used to activate the vtec on a regular vtec motor. You need to plug that hole otherwise it will leak. It is on the underside of the head on the distibutor side. What head bolts or studs are you using???? Does it run OK besides the oil leak?? And again, How much oil?

were using b16 head bolts. it performs good but vtec doesnt work. sometimes it does then sometimes it doesnt. but other than that it doesnt leak that much oil no more. now its a overheating problem...

b16 head bolts....it performs like a champ....we are running ls ecu so no vtec yet....it only has the overheating problem, but that can be solved easily and now the slight oil leak....
