well as some of u kno its been raining in socal for like 3 weeks now...so i have yokohama avs 100 under the R...all i have to say is that the yokos are great rain tires. i feel no hydroplaning so any slip. i have all season tires on my beater and i can barly drive that thing. and my moms bmw kinda slips but the R is still better. so all i got say is that the avs 100 are good rain tires.

has anyone else driven in the rain with avs 100?

 

I drove my friends GTS with 16" ES100s in the rain. No slippage or hydroplaning whatsoever. I felt comfortable like I would be driving in dry weather.

I'm about to switch my bald 711s to the ES100s because it felt like my ride was gonna hydroplane last night on the 10 freeway.

I have 205/45/16 Sumitomo HRTZ II (which are identical but cost less ) and they've been great to me in the So Cal rain.

 

I've had experience with ES100s on my EG, awesome overall. I'm about to slap these bad boys on the R... with Azenis I'm afraid of the freeway.

I live in Hilo, HI and we see more rain than So Cal. Maybe not right now, but most of the time. I haven't hydroplaned yet with my Azenis. Perhaps with more water on the road. But there is a lot of slippage.

 

I slip alot going from a stop in wet weather, but lateral traction seems great

Yes.

I have them on the other Integra in my garage, and yes, they're excellent in rain. On dry pavement, they are fairly good, although not nearly as grippy or great handling as the RE010 or the Falken RT215 or the S-03. The other thing about the ES100 is that they are inexpensive to buy, [/i]and[/i] they last a long time. Over the long run, they'll cost about 1.2-1.3 cents per mile, compared with about 3.0 cents per mile for the RE010 or the Falken Azenis. If you don't mind giving up some dry performance for the lower price, they offer terrific "bang for the buck".

BTW, the full name of the tire you're referring to is the Yokohama AVS ES100. Most people refer to them as the ES100. I wouldn't refer to them as the AVS 100, because some people might think you're referring to the AVS Sport rather than the ES100.

 

I've used them before. They're very good good in the rain. Good, cheap all around performance tire.

 

AVS ES100s are great in the rain, but awful in the snow.

I found that out the hard way.

iam using Yoko es100 right now..pretty slick tires..when i had fatory stock tires(it was old) i was unable to drive on freeway over 60mph in rain..cause this **** tires get lost control in little water pond or heavy rain...after i got ES100..its way better..when i step on little pond.no out of control or anything..good drips on corner(rain day) i was in hurry and i took quick speedy trun..i was "WOW" dang..i am glad i pick the right tires

That's a neat little fact for the 010's/azenis, would you happen to know the cents per mile for a tire like the S-03's?

 

I have had the OEM Bridgestone RE010 the Bridgestone S03 and the AVS ES 100 on my ITR. The order I would rate them in wet handling is S03 with the ES100 slightly behind and the RE010 much further behind. The ES100 is a very very good all around tire but it is not the best rain tire out there.

If you really want to try something amazing, get a set of Hoosier Dirt Stockers or the newer Hoosier Radial Wet. These things honestly grip better in the wet then most so called performance tires grip in the dry. Really! It's unbelievable until you try it. Of course, the can only be used when its raining so they would be useless on the street.

I would wager that the cost per mile for the S03 is just slightly better than the RE010, unless you got the 195/55/15 that tire rack had on sale for a while. Then the cost per mile would be almost as good as the Yok.

 

Bad *** tire, i'm using them on my R now and have been for a while, and in the hot rainy summers in south florida they are awesome and just what you need

 

i kinda liked them, awsome for rain, good for traction but after about 10k or so they loose most of their traction, and price is a little steep. I'd rock them again if i had the money BTW i had 205/55/16 on 16x6.5in rims

Not exactly, unless you'd like to guess how many miles a set will last.

First, here's where the numbers come from. In the past, on this forum, we've had topics asking how many miles people's tires lasted, and there were lots of reports for the RE010 and the Azenis RT215. For the RE010, most folks reported getting 15-20K miles if they drove them from new down to flat treadwear bars, although a few got less than that and a few others (including me, still with tread at 25K) got more. For the RT215, most folks got 9-12K miles if they drove them from new down to flat treadwear bars, although again, a few got less than that and a few others got more. This is based on the typical usage pattern reported, which was moderately aggressive street driving (most of us don't drive like a grandmother), sometimes including an occasional track event or two.

You can combine the treadlife numbers with the cost of the tires as follows. Each set of RE010 costs around $520 for 4 tires plus $60 mounting = $580. Each set of Azenis RT215 costs around $300 for 4 tires plus $60 mounting = $360. You can then divide the cost of a set of tires by the number of miles you get. Using the upper end of the estimates, the RE010 costs $580/20K = 2.9 cents per mile, and the Falkens cost $360/12K = 3.0 cents per mile.

We haven't had a whole lot of reports for the ES100, but we know they last a long time, longer than the RE010 with similar usage based on my own personal experience. A set of ES100 in the stock size costs $244 plus $60 mounting = $304. I'm guessing that you can get 23-25K miles with similar usage, and that works out to about 1.2-1.3 cents per mile.

The problem with the S-03 is that we haven't had a whole lot of reports for those, either. We know that the cost of a set, based on current Tire Rack prices for the two popular sizes, is $532 for 205/50-15 tires plus $60 mounting = $592, and $292 for 195/50-15 tires plus $60 mounting = $352. What we don't know is how many miles they will typically last, under the same kind of usage as the other tires mentioned. If you would like to make a guess regarding treadlife, then obviously it's easy enough to divide and figure out the cost per mile.

Huh? They're $61 per tire in the stock ITR size of 195/55-15, regular everyday price at the Tire Rack. Even your bigger 205/55-16 size is only $83, which is a bargain for that size, too. Those prices are very INexpensive...

It's funny you mention the HTR ZII I actually prefer them to the AVS ES 100's currently on my car...

I second that, I recently got those tires for very cheap, and I'm pretty much satisfied considering my car is daily driven.

 

how are they in the dry weather?

 

honestly, in my opinion, i think they work well period. They very affordable and they hold corners pretty well. I've never been to the track but I'm sure these can work as good as anything else.
