B series swap or turbo D ?
I picked up another Civic HB, a 93. It's a CX so i want to either do a B series swap or get a new D block and go turbo. Now i'm look to spend around $2000 to at most $2500, I could get a B16a2 swap for near that price. I also think that I might be better off gettin a D16z6, JDM D15b Vtec, or a D block and going turbo. I've done a few swaps and know my stuff pretty good and have complete access to my uncles Shop, which has a pipe bender in it. Which D block is the best for boost and why ? I don't know if VTEC makes boost a little more complicated or not for fuel and igintion. I would probally use Uberdata, due to the cost and the user friendly way it was made. I would also probally get a wideband so i can tune it nice. Now at like 7 or so psi can i tune it myself with a wideband and have it realible without a full rebuild or would i be better off to get SCAT rods, new rings, bearings and some type of forged piston right from the get go or not? Also can i take and do everything reliable for $200o or so ? I think a turbo kit ot build should be around $1000, motor like $350 or so depending on what D-block is the best for turbo, get a ex/si tranny and what not should put me around 2k ? So go with the reliable B swap or have fun and do a turbo d series ?
omg this si going to turn into a b vs d turbo war, this is the bottom line right here:
d-series turbo will be faster and cheaper than a b16 swap, plain and simple. Now there are also reliablitly issues, of course a turbo motor will need more maintence. The b-series also hasmore potential, but if he is on a budget and doesnt plan on turbing the b-series or doesnt have the funds to do so, the turbo d is the way to go

turbo D, and yes, this is going to turn into an all out war, you can make a turbo charged car reliable, but it is all about tuning, you can go with uberdata and tune it yourself, or you can go with hondata, and pay $$$ to have a hondata certidfied tuner tune it for you. Uberdata is way cheaper, but if you don't know what the hell you are doing(like me) thnen hondata is the way to go. Turbo D > B Swap. Just my opinion
You don't need me to tell you which route to take.
BUT...just remember this. A d-series turbo will not run as smoothly or as reliably as a stock B16 will, and if you decide to build the turbo kit yourself, it can be very $$$$ when you start adding parts up.

it can, just depends how deep your wallet is
, and yes the part costs add up hella fast...

i bet you i can make it run just as smooth and reliable
im only assuming you are saying that cuz you are running the hack

Who says B-series neccessarily means b16, I just picked up a LS swap for my EG hatch (what im currently running) and then im turboing that. You can pick up an LS for under 1000 bucks then still have money for your turbo stuff.
turbo B will make more poer in the end, so will a built B (NA built).
Im going turbo B (see sig) but really this question has come up so many times.... its really just a matter of:
cash, time
if youve got both, go boosted b, otherwise boosted D is the route for you

I have posted the link for this damn website like 3 times this week but I would go with a B16a2 swap because it has more potential and if you don't have any future plans for it then you can just leave it and it will be a lot more reliable than the turbo D....
website with engine swaps::: http://www.rimsandthings.com good price.

If this is your first time boosting, go with the turbo D. The parts come a dime a dozen and there really cheap so you don't have to worry a lot about breaking parts and blowing motors. Just think about this..once your max out the potential of a turbo D, the car will no longer be streetable.
a d-series has alot of potential, maybe nott he potential of a b-series, and yes swaps can get very expensive, but if you shop around and are not an impulse buyer, then you can get one at a good price. but i still stick with turbo D

Why? Youre better off with a ls motor instead.

i'm going thru this w/ myself as well...i have a 93 ex. but for me, this is more a money thing, which is gonna be cheaper for me in the long run, and it's leaning towards boosting the D...guess i'll have to evaluate my pockets within the coming months...

B and boost later
