Help! My CW rim bites the dust!
Hey guys! I've been lurking on HT for a while now and I saw delinquent's intro post this morning and I thought it's about time I did that too! I purchased a 98 CW ITR about 3 months ago and have been enjoying it alot! I've tracked the car twice on the race tracks here in Phoenix and I must say it's a tremendous improvement over the 94 LS I used to track!
Anyways, I posted today because something shitty happened this morning (on my way to work) and I need your help! I was accelarating off a stoplight and I looked down at my CD case for a split sec
and BOOM! I immediately pulled into a side street to check out the damage. Sure enough, my left rear tire is completely flat. Okay ... should be no problem I say. I changed to my spare and when I was putting the flat tire in the trunk, I noticed a ~1.5 - 2" gash on the inside of my rim (doesn't look repairable!) The inner fender lining has been gashed in about 4 areas too. Damit! So, not only do I need a new tire (I could see the cords), I need a new CW rim. So, if there's anyone that might have 1 or 2 CW rims for sale, please let me know! I was going to contact JoyrIdeII about his rims (cos I saw that he switched to gunmetal) but I noticed that he had sold the remaining CW ones to Rob. I'm willing to pay about the same as what JoyrIdeII sold them for ($175 for 2?). So, please keep a lookout for who might have 1 or 2 (I might buy 2 so I can have a spare)? BTW, I don't have any single pics of my car just yet but here's the link to a S2K meet I attended about 2 weeks ago :

Thanks guys! It hurts to see the R hobbling on a spare. At least I can swap to my race rims (w/ A032Rs) when I get home. I'm just bummed cos I love how white rims look on the car!
Plus my A032Rs are on their last legs so I pray it doesn't rain anytime soon!!

Well, I'm bummed. It doesn't seem like there are many used CW rims out there for sale. I was quoted a decent price for a new CW rim from Mike K @ Naples Acura but I would've preferred to get one used (cheaper of course!
). Anyone?? If nobody replies within the next few days or so, I'll probably order from Mike then. Can't stand to look at the R like that (looks like it got sucker-punched!)

Try checking with a wheel repair place before giving up hope. They can do some amazing repairs and make a wheel as good as new, even when the damage seems severe. There are various wheel repair places listed in AutoWeek, or you can try a place like Wheels America or Transwheel. I don't know of any wheel repair places in AZ but there might be one; check with your dealer's service department and ask where they send out wheels to be repaired.
Can't hurt to ask, right?

nsxtcjr, thanks for the suggestion! I might just do that. I took some pics of the "damage" tonight with my camcorder (reason for the poor resolution).

that's really strange...i've never seen a rim damaged like that before. i would definately see if that could be repaired before buying some new rims though...
Yeah, I know. I *still* don't know what I ran over. I drove back to the spot to check out what exactly I hit ... nothing but a bunch of rocks (pretty decent size ones though). When I switched to the race rims tonight, I checked out the gash that was closest to the side ITR sticker. Freaking thing punched thru the fender lining and thru the metal underneath. I ducted tape it up from the inside (went thru the left rear speaker grill opening). This totally sucks!

When I had the wheel off, I did do a visual check around the suspension, brakes, brake lines, rotor, etc. Everything seems to be ok. Nothing was leaking or looked like it was damaged/broken. I drove it like that to work and back and it seemed ok. I'm taking it to Basch Acura tomorrow (throw it on a lift to get a better look) and have the Mark Basch (local NSX guru) take a look at it. We'll see what happens. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
well at least that's good to hear. i've actually never had any expirience with basch acura. are they any good? the only dealership that my car has ever been to was scottsdale acura and they allowed my car to be broken into as it sat on their lot.
Basch Acura is the only place I'd take my car for any non-warranty issues (track inspections, supercharging, etc). I take all my cars there (since my cars are all in the Honda/Acura line). That's where most of the local NSX/S2K guys take their cars to. If you ask around the NSX community, Mark is the man to talk to!! Even if I have a warranty issue, I usually take it to him first so I would know what to expect when I go to the dealer. You should check out his shop!
wow
almost looks like someone hiding under the street w/ a gun and shot upwards into your car. did you check to see if whatever did the damage is still lodged inside the car?
yoshi - whose really curious as to what could've caused this

Tell me about it!
I wasn't expecting a hole in the rim, that's for sure! I did check briefly last night and I don't think it was lodged anywhere in the car. The puncture thru' the car was pretty small and I don't think a small stone would've done this kind of damage. We'll see when I take it in to Basch later today.
