hey everyone...i've been hanging around this board for a while and i've finally gotten around to posting. i just thought i'd introduce myself. my name is tony and i own a 2000 PY ITR. i'm an avid road racer and i race Speedvision Touring Cars, Motorola Cup, SCCA Regional and National, as well as the occasional NASA event--i race for ICY/SL Motorsports which is co-owned by my father(we run the gray/blue proteges in WC for thos of you that follow the series). this board has a wealth of information and i look forward to being a part of it. thanks everyone...

i race one of the proteges...the ITR is strictly a street car (except for the occasional track day, of course ).

Hey Tony:
i just check out the SL site. dang, j00 have lots of experience for such a youngster

how shall we know which protege is your's, since there are two Mazdas w/ LISA on the side of it

 

If you could...please give us your ubiased opinion of the Protege vs ITR on the track. I mean, we all know the Protege you race is prepped, but what do you think of it vs similarly prepped ITRs? Also, how do you feel about the ITR in stock form as far as handling, etc.

lol...SCCA made sure that we took care of that...my car usually says T LISA. the team doesn't keep specific cars for each driver--i pretty much drive whatever car is available.

as you said, the protege i drive is fully race prepped. the only ITR that i've ever driven on the track is my own, which is almost totally stock. stock vs. stock, i'd have to say that the ITR is definately a better car, however, the series has made concessions to allow the protege to be competitive. i do also believe that the protege, although not overwhelmingly powerful in stock form, provides an extremely stable platform upon which we can build our race cars. i must admit, though, the ITR is incredible handling right from the factory and on track days, i always get out of the car with a smile on my face (i do wish that it would respond a little bit more to throttle-steering ).
