HELP: Cam timing issue....
I have a B16a1 in my 1990 CRX Si. Swapped it myself. Apparently when I put the timing belt on, the cams were not lined up properly. The ignition timing was at 25 degrees instead of 16. And that was the closest I could get it by adjusting the distributor. The car ran great though. Well, I finally had a chance to get it fixed pretty cheap at a shop. Both cams were off a tooth in opposite directions. I had them pull the timing belt, and set it perfectly. I watched and verified. Now I check the timing and it is at exactly 16 degrees. The problem is that now, my car is much slower. It feels like the power band is smoother and more spread out. I have also caught myself hitting the rev limiter more now than before. Did the cam timing being off move the power from the lower rpm range to the higher rpm range? Any feedback would be helpful.
By moving the cams like they were, you had more overlap. You can achieve the same effect by purchasing, installing and properly tuning a set of adjustable cam gears.
