Default ls rods / d series block

i have a d15b6 with a d16a6 head on it in my 91 crx hf right now. i have a complete d16y8 motor and i was wanting to lightlt build it. i heard i could use ls integra rods and pm7 pistons on that block with the stock y8 crank and it would make a nice oe honda setup. let me know what you think i should do with these parts i have. thanks for any help.

I wouldn't put B series rods in my D series motor, especially considering the stroke of a LS is different than the stroke of a D16. You can use the PM7 rods and pistons (rods are strong) in the Y8, but you need to have the lower end balanced at a machine shop and I've heard you have to grind the valve cutouts in the PM7 pistons for the VTEC valves to clear... I just picked that up somewhere.

The PM7 pistons are domed, which lowers the clearance between the valves and the piston, compared to stock for either motor. This will also raise your compression, somewhere around 11-12:1. Only use 91+ octane. If you do this, always use 93 octane if you can get it...

It's been done time and time again - LS work, but they need some simple machining. They are way stronger than the D-series rods and realively cheap - junk-yard turbo builders find these as an inexpensive alternative to aftermarket rods.

I believe stock D-series rods start giving problems just about 200hp so that would be the deciding factor IMO. I would opt for the lighter D rods if you aren't building a beast.

Sorry I have vary little D info so can anyone answer some Q's for me? When do stock D pistons start to crap out?
I see b rods and pistons can handle 300 whp and you say d rods can handle around 200, are the D pistons just as good as the B's? would the use of only B rods in a d motor be able to support 300whp on D pistons?
I boosted my girls D and was going to try and break 200whp stock just to see if she can do it but this might tell me ahead, I think it could but we will see.

its been done before...both b16a and b18a/b...and the rod is the same length for the d16 and b18a/b...

Bump for this question. I know the block has to be notched to fit the LS rods. What exactly does this mean? Where am I to be doing this, "notching," you speak of?

That means taking a peice out from the side. That way the rod can rotate freely. Honestly I wouldn't do LS Rods. I'm not sure that D-Series pistons can take the head of high power. I might be wrong but I dunno. I think if you are going for over 250 hp that rods/pistons are the better way to go.
