H22a swap....worth it?
Hey guys, i have a 97 honda accord lx, I've been thinking of swapping an H22a engine in it for about 2 years now. Is it worth the money? I mean 2500 for the h22a engine and tranny plus around 1500 labor is a lotta money for me. What gains should I expect in the 1/4 mile. If anyone here has an H22a with basic stuff like headers, catback, intake, good tune up... what are your times? My accord now runs 16.5 and its embarrasing cus its got the looks but no perfomance to back it up... Would an H22a engine with minor bolt ons put me at least in mid 15's? Any input would be appreciated
i feel that my swap was well worth it. I ran a 15.2@92 with my h22 AUTO.
or
if you dont want to spend the $$, just get some nitrous express. a 50shot will put in the 15s easy, if not better. Its competely safe if installed and used properly.

remember besides labor costs and the h22 there are maintenance items like timing belt, water pump, clutch etc that also need to get replaced.
honestly, what kind of shape is your car in? what ever you spend for the sway, you'd be lucky to get half back on resale. imo, sell / trade your car in for a 97-01 lude if you want an H22.

I've been thinking about trading it and getting a lude but I just put soo much money in my accord that its like no turning back... I gotta finish what i started. Besides in the past few month i got a brand new brembo rotors kit with new bearings, I got a brand new clutch, brand new suspension, KYB agx with eibach sport kit sitting on some nice 17's. Car's got 140k and Kelly Blue book on it is like 3000 grand. Its simply not worth it trading or selling it. THats y I just wanted to know if i should go ahead and put MORE money in it instead of just driving it to the ground.

that's the way i thought about it 3yrs ago. true an h22 or turbo F22 accord is sick, but in the long run your just going to lose money. i say take the loss now and put the money towards a newer car that is already got the hp your looking for.

I pulled a 14.9 after i got my swap. Its in a 4 door 5th gen. I recently did the stage 1 cams, skunk2 Intake manifold, and prospeed header. This put me at 208whp and i made 1 run scince and i pulled a 14.4. I love the accord its just too heavy. If i had this motor in a hatch i woulc be pulling low 13 maybe high 12's on slicks.
I did the h22a swap but sometimes i seriously consider putting the f22b1 back in and going boost. Iron sleeves and an 8.5 compression. Plus i can pick up f22 motors for about 200-300 EASILY. for the price of one h22a longblock complete i can throw in some cp pistons and eagle rods and rape most n/a h22a's.
Otherwise i think the h22a feels pretty badass in my car, like someone says night and day difference. but frm sleeves and 10.6 compression w/ the ringland problems have me wondering if it was the right thing to do.

Yea I feel the same way. I say the best bang for the money is boosted f22. A h22 is nice in a 2000 pound hatch.

15.2s ? wow auto trans sucks. I am expecting to be in the mid 14s with bolt ons and a mostly gutted interior. ZexyAccord do the swap yourself. FInd a friend that has experience and spend a couple of days swapping it in. save you lots of scrilla.
Its a good offer but I'm sorry I kinda like the 5th gen shapes... and its sorta my own project that i gotta finish. Looking by the feedback i got i'll prolly gonna go with H22a swap and LSD tranny. I will be spraying on that motor and if ppl are saying they are pulling high 14's on them than with 65 shot I could easily put that bad boy in the 13's and thats what i want. Its going to be an everyday driver for at least 2-3 more years so a little exrta hp is well worth it.

wow. must suck where you live if labor is that high. the swap can be done around here for 2500 motor and labor. about 300 out 300 in + misc fluids, belts, etc..
ive had a NX 75 shot for about 2 yrs now but once i get some money ill most likely sell all my nitrous setup and go boost.
HOLY **** HE MISSED THE FIELD GOAL. ****** ROOKIE. sorry watching the chargers jets game

Well I am picking my swap up for 2050 and installing it with some friends. With misc replacement parts and obd2-obd1 conversion harness I expect it to total around 2300. Not too bad.
those prices are expensive on the h22a, here in elpaso they will do the h22a swap for 1800 engine and labor and a jdm auto to manual for 1550 tranny labor and parts. i seen this 98 accord at the track with a h22 engine and tranny he upgraded his low and top end slapped a little boost on it (with other bolt ons) and run a 13.2 in the quarter at this fundraiser event. to me thats worth the money. hopefully my tranny will get to the shop this month so i can get it put in.
Assuming that I can sell my car how much do you think would be reasonable to ask for it?

No matter how you slice it, what we do to these cars just don't have any resale value.
Parted out is a different story. But that's a lot of work to if you want to sell 50 parts to 50 different people. These things are money pits.
In some ways I think it's kinda cool... I'm gonna drop about a total of 14,000 on a car that has a blue book of $2,500. Why? Because I can afford to lose the money.
Just make sure your first investments in life are smart ones. Then later you can afford to do stupid stuff with your cash.

true... new domestic cars drop in value by 20% or more the second they're driven off the lot (dont know how exact that is)... Import cars keep value much longer as you all know.
