Electric VSS
As far as I am aware you must use cable with cable and electric with vss.
But maybe somebody who has been inside the clusters will know more but I doubt its possible to convert.

cable cluster=cable/mechanical VSS
electronic cluster=electronic VSS
*I'm sure you can convert cable to electric and vice versa if you happen to know a cluster guru out there but personally, I don't think it's worth the work. Stick with the basic, apples to apples, the way they're made.

That pic of the cluster shown is off the carbed 1.5L model out of Japan. The ZC cluster looks the same except has a redline of 7200rpm. I know cause i have an extra one lying around.
That cluster should be plug and play for you, there is no need to change it over to the vss unit, which i don't think could be done anyhow.

if your gauge cluster is cable man, you need to use your cable vss, not an electric one. even if its jdm. if a cluster is electric it won't have a place for a mechanical fitting on the back, like yours does.....

I know my cluster is cable and i was gonna stay w/ my cable VSS.
It was a general question to see if there was a way around using a electric vss on EF8/9 cluster.
