what intake adds the most HP gains?
the tube design one make the most power... (aem, injen, 4ig)
the mugen, spoon and j's intakes are pretty much just extensions to bring/channel in colder air from the behind the bumper but doesnt' really add to much...

i agree the quality of the comptech intake is great.. and it even comes with that carbon fiber box thingie.. it's sweet..... but no extra power..

Yeah, i just couldnt see spending hundreds on a part that adds nothing (pretty much) when its built to be a performance piece...i dunno, just doesnt seem worth it.

Why get an aftermarket intake?
The stock unit is already a cone design and has excellent heatshielding.
Remove the factory baffling and voila! aftermarket intake sound, no money spent, and no worries about water logging.
Aftermarket intake = waste of money

i never dynoed it, but comptech claimed it added a decent amount of hp. regardless to me though, the car felt way better, had awesome throttle response, and sounded unholy
Really did feel quite a bit quicker.
edit: this was combined with the comptech header installed at the same time.

you have plenty of choices, depends on how much you wanna spend
AEM, Competch = 350 or less
Mugen, J's Racing = 1k+

Some of the earlier models had some fitment issues. Even though the plastic box was moulded all the same, there were some inconsistencies in how they were fitted under the hood. The rattles can be curable, but it just takes a bit of detective work and proper placement of cushioning or alternative bracing. Mine no longer rattles and holds up fine. But I have replaced a hose and some screws over time.
