It works very well if its done right. I have the ACT oem lightened unit at 15 lbs and i cant see any problems with it.

I had King Motorsports lighten and balance mine when they installed my new clutch and it is great. It is easier to match revs and the car really gets through the rpms faster and I have not noticed and downsides. Low-end seems great and the top end pulls very hard. Also, the car does not seem like it is going to stall when you press the clutch in (as can happen if you go too light) and it only requires a little more attention to the gas pedal as to not stall the car.

How many pounds is your flywheel now? How much does the stock one weigh?

I honestly am not too sure what the final weight of the flywheel was, but if I recall correctly, the stock flywheel weighs in at a lofty 23lbs. I told King that my car is a daily driver that I take to the roadcourse as well and I'm sure they lightened it enough, but not too much for my needs. As I said, I can tell a difference in acceleration, but not drivability.

Oh yeah, I do recommend lightening the stock flywheel since it is an OEM peice and we all know that nothing (asside from Mugen) fits like OEM.

'Cept for my Unorthodox Racing Aluminum Flywheel which fits like a glove, and revs like a streetbike.

The installer of my clutch said he weighed my stock flywheel and it was exactly 20 lbs.

Hey whoa man! be careful makin the factory flywheel that light! thats almost half the weight. ive heard its very dangerous to do that. i bought a clutchmasters stage 3 clutch and lightened flywheel (9 lbs.) combo for 650 bucks. i would seriously reconsider lightening a flywheel that much

Hmmm. I have a friend who lightened his stock flywheel to 12 pounds ove a year ago and to this date, it works great and has not caused any problems.

I guess we'll have to see what happens to mine!

well let me rephrase my comment. i have heard that lightening the factory flywheel was dangerous. im sure someone knows the guys brothers mom that had a car with a lightened flywheel that flung off and cut the car in half. so maybe its not true. do be careful though. its kinda like unorthodox racing crank pulleys are a "death sentence" for your motor. well time will tell cause about 1,200 miles ago i had them put on my 195,053 mile motor. so im "doomed" now. but maybe i wont be like that guys cousins best friends roomates uncle named billy joe bob that "ruined" his motor because of the pulleys. i sure hope i wont.

Do NOT lighten the stock flywheel to 12lbs! That is too light, and its not worth the risk if it comes apart.. If it does, it will take out your bell houseing, possibly the block/tranny, maybe even come through the firewall and hit y ou and your passenger.. NOT GOOD! They do make scatter sheilds for this, but thats not enough.. Just bring it down to 15lbs, you will be happy with that.. I was...

Can anyone confirm what the weight of the stock 5th gen flywheel is?

I used to have a 1993 Preude VTEC. And I recall it being considerably more rev-happy than my 5th gen Prelude is... It could be all in my head... Or it could be that the 5th gen has a sightly heaveier flywheel from the factory.
