96 accord auto-v6 probs.
I recently got my dads 96 v6 auto accord. I got it shipped from TX and I live in ca, when I got it the next day the tranny was acting up. When i drove it about 20 miles and got off the freeway, I got to a stop sign and the car wouldnt go. It was in D4 and was revving like it was in neutral. I then I shifted it to 2 and it worked until I got to my gf's house. I then made a trip to honda in second gear and had them check it out. They said when they checked fluids they looked good, so they flushed it out and found metal shavings, they also said that the pressures inside were off, 3k to get a new trans w/ labor. The car has about 145k miles on it and has been well maintained by honda. Ill take pics of the engine bay later, its so clean I could eat off anything in there.
Thats way too much for me so I'm wondering what options I got. Let me know what u guys think and if i could swap to a manual trans or whatever. Anything will help I guess.

I'm not aware of any manual trannies that would bolt up to your motor. I would say your best bet is to find another auto tranny at one of your local junkyards. It may take some time though, since there wasn't a lot of 5th gen V6's
:scratching head:
Actually... I'm not familiar with the older Acuras, but here goes anyways... Didn't the old Legend come with the same motor? If it did, did they ever offer a manual tranny?
If anyone knows, please clarify...

I believe part of the block needed to be shaved in order for the manual to fit.. That and then there was an issue with the immobilizer.. car would think it was in park... I'll see if i can get you the link.. If not, would you be interested in selling her?? I might be interested.
nope not gonna sell my ride, prob gonna stay with auto and swap it out, ive done a swap on my crx but dunno how to work with manuals, anyone got a link for me?

I have a 96 Accord 4 banger. I recently had the same problem. I had a low mileage auto trans put in. It runs like a champ now. The transmission cost me $600 and my mechanic charged me another $200 to install. I'd assume a V6 tranny would be a little more. Good luck.
nice, thanks for the reply i can get a trans for $500 just hope i can find somewhere that doesnt charge too much for labor. i wanna do it myself but nowhere to swap it right now.
I wasn't able to find the link but seems like your just going to swap in another auto... If you ever change your mind on selling her, let me know.. oh yea, might want to have some friends help ya.. I heard those auto's are real heavy
the problem is that with F and H series, you can interchange trannies throughout and accross the series....unfortunatley for you, must C series engines came out of NSX's....
