Default Info & Pictures of 'mods', done to my RED 'Type R'....!!

As requested, here is a list of my mods (both performance & some 'ricey' ones)....in no particular order -

1. Intake System (March, 2000) - Removed resonator and replaced Air filter with a 'King Dragon' unit....using my own design of adaptor (before there were any K&N drop-in ones!).

2. Exhaust (October, 2001) - Replaced from the cat-back, with 2.25" piping and it exits out a twin (Euro look) '3A-Racing' stainless-steal muffler.

3. S2K 'Engine Start' button (May, 2000) - Fitted a geniune S2K button, which is fully working and l reckon should be there in the first place! The 'dimmer' dial for the dash-board, was moved from the right side to the left and the button (relay utilised) slotted in perfectly.

4. Aluminium 'Type R' Hand-brake handle (October, 2001) - Removed original handle with heat-gun, took out lever mechanism, ground off the metal edge that sticks out, replaced and fitted new handle.

5. Race Tyres (May, 2000 & November, 2001) - Purchased a second set of 15" rims and fitted a set of Bridgstone RE540S (195/55R15) tyres (far right of picture). Also got hold of a set of 'cut' racing-slicks (middle) from GTP race driver, who raced a ITR (winning class B) in 2000. Current road tyres are Bridgestone RE711 (205/50R15).

6. Other Mods & Pictures -
* Brake Pads - Ferodo 'racing' pads (Italian). Previously tried EBC 'Green Stuff'.
* Brake Fluid - Castrol 'SRF'.
* Stereo System - Alpine '7852' CD/tuner head-unit, Boston Accoustics 6" 'Rally' splits, B/A 6" rears, 2 * Alpine V12 (2*75 watts RMS) amps, 12" Alpine 'ZR' sub-woofer and an Odyessy 'dry-cell' battery (refer to orange box in engine bay picture).

* Sun-Roof - Hollandia 'Super TVS', fitted as an after-market 'dealer option'.
* Brake Pedals - Sparco (no picture, sorry).
* Rear Strut-tower bar - added optional Honda bar (definately aids handling).
* Rear Lower Trailing arm Bushes - replaced with some stiffer after-market ones, which helps control the rear end better.
* Racing Harness - 3 point harness that clips into eye bolts mounted beside the seat and one in the boot (when rear seats are folded down).
* Tinted Tail & side Indicator (blinker) lamps - 'sprayed' with a mix (95:5) of clear and 'reduced' black 2-pak paint.
* Head Lights - Phillips 'blue' Xenon....nice and white, giving better vision.
* Personalised Number Plates - Changed from 'standard' issue plates to 'TYPR.00' in December, 2000.

I think that's about it (?) - but when my lease/warranty are up....I'm gonna keep it as a 'track' only car and setup/strip the car out (adding roll-cage, removing seats, doing engine mods etc)!

Hope this has assisted people?!

so as of now you have no resonator connected so basically you just have a hole on the bottom of the OEM box sucking in air right below it? how does it feel? sound?
also, do you have any pictures showing the dual pipe muffle from a distance?

no, he hacked up the resonator, took out the piping and connected it back to the stock airbox.

No not quite, I should have explained further! I took one of the sections of pipe from the Resonator and pushed it through the bottom of the air box....so it now sucks in air from near the front intake (no pictures of it, sorry). It does not really sound any different....but if I want that HUGE induction roar (like the AEM CAI), I can merely remove the lid of the box! Not good for performance etc, but sounds fun and I'm NOT stuck with the sound, when it starts to get annoying.

No 'distance' pictures of the exhaust, but I'll see what I can do?! In my opinion, it looks really neat; as the bend in the pipes, blends in well with the back of the car and I just wanted something different (compared to 1 big pipe) PLUS I didn't want it to be too 'drony' (can barelyhere it, at high way speeds - 100+ km/h or 60+ mph).

Here's another picture, showing a slightly different angle of the exhaust -

so the white box is not in the car anymore? you just took out the tubing inside it and put it back together in a way which sucks air from the front end?
sorry for the repitition i just wanted to do something similar soon, just wanna see what you did exactly
thanks

Correct....no more 'white' box. I took the slightly curved bit of black tubing (the top section, in the above picture) and pushed it through the bottom of the air box. The flared lip (the end showing), means that it fits pretty flush with rim of the hole and one day I'll get around to extending the pipe to the very front of the car!

and good luck with your 'little' project.

The middle tyres (sorry tires) are Michelin 'racing slicks' off a proper race car that won 'Class B' in the 2000 Australian GTP. While the far right, are a Bridgestone RE540S 'motor sport' tyre (only available from a select number of outlets, one per State) and they're still very drivable in the wet. I don't believe you guys in the States, can get the RE540S....bummer, they're a fantastic tyre and sh*t all over the Falken 'Azenis'!!

Howdy Aussie_ITR-0239,

Rexxy here, (was on the hscc canberra weekend). Just had a question, which i think i asked you back then about your tail lights, with the laquer spray, did you mix the 3clear&1black then spray ??
what brand did you use ??

G'day Rexxy (real name?),

I didn't do the spraying myself (was done by a local panel shop, here in Canberra) and I've just called him to confirm the type of paint. I also asked him to confirm the mix and it would seem he had NOT been quite truthful with the information; as he didn't want to let the 'secret formula' out!! Sorry anyone, that tried to spray with the 3 to 1 mix!!

The recipe goes something like this (reduce quantity of black, if you want it lighter!) -

*** Ratio = 95% clear coat : 5% 'reduced' 2-pak black ***
