Default Questions regarding 1990-1996 Accord please.

I am looking at possibly buying an older Accord as a commuter car. I would be getting a 1990-1996 four door, 4 cyl, and 5 speed. Wondering what kind of mileage I can expect from this car driving interstate at about 80mph.

Also, is there anything to look out for in these cars with higher mileage? Should I be afraid of buying one with 150k+ miles? I've never owned a Honda before, only Toyota's. Just looking for info.

Thanks

ok, this is how i could put it best, Honda's, especially those early years are notorious for going 200k miles with regular maintenance and just TLC...

but, things do go wrong and can give you problems just like any car that reaches such high mileage...what i suggest is this, try and find a car that has in or around 120k...most people when they hit 100k usually get a big service done between 100k and 115k, so you might be coming out of the tail end of service, which is a good thing, giving you time to save some more cash just in case a problem arises...

with high mileage accords, the miles you get will usually vary depending on your driving, but i know that my mom used to get between 260 and 315 in her 94 EX accord...so go figure, it just depends.

In my old '90 Accord LX 5-speed I'd average around 420-450 miles on one tank of gas, mostly interstate driving. The gearing is perfect for that kind of thing- at 80mph, you're barely turning 3000rpm's.

One known problem to look out for with older model Accords are oil leaks around the engine and oil pan. Seeing as you're in GA, you shouldn't have any rust problems, so that won't really be a concern. I agree with confuc1ous about buying one with around 120,000 miles, but they'll last you forever; my little old '90 just turned over 225K and she's running just as strong as the day we drove her off the lot 15 years ago.
