D16Y8 or D16Z6 camshaft with D16Y8 block and D16Z6 head !?
Hey all.
I was wondering which camshaft I should use in my setup?
I will be using a D16Y8 block and a D16Z6 head. Engine will be boosted.
I know that wichever camshaft I use, I must use the matching cam gear also.
What about the distributor? Will this affect anything else?
OEM camshaft specs:
D16Y8 camshaft (intake/exhaust):
Advertised Duration 246/230 (Crower website)
Duration @ 0.050'' 208/191
Gross Lift 393/369
D16Z6 camshaft (intake/exhaust):
Advertised Duration 244/228 (Crower website)
Duration @ 0.050'' 208/192
Gross Lift 384/370

So what do you all think? Will the D16Y8 camshaft even make enough difference? Maybe 2hp? hehe.

Match cam gear with crank pulley...at least if you do not want to mess around with timing
Don't forget to match cam sprockets too
