searched but couldnt find the answer.....what im doing is replacing my cable B16 tranny w/ a cable LS in my 4th gen hatch... so what i want to know is if im gonna need specific axles or can i use the ones im running right now!...if this is posted elswhere id appreciate dirrection or a helpfull answer....thanks
don't worry about the gearing. IF you're running 14" rims, you'll like what the car will feel on the street and more so on the highway.
There are axle changes but if you use all three axles from your B16 trans you will be fine.
Another thing to worry about though is the clutch.
92-93 cable transmissions use 94 and later pieces.
The 91 and earlier cable transmissions use a different clutch so make sure you have the correct kit there when you swap over.
Inspect the throw out bearing too. Mine came off it's spring and now it feels funny. I think the next time I take it appart I will bend the ears on the spring so they can't come off the bearing.
The cable LS trans is geared slightly taller than a B16 trans but the change is only to wider spaced gearing. The Hydro LS trans is the one to avoid. It is geared taller and wider, think of an HF transmission but not as bad. The B16 trans is a tighter ratio so the revs don't change much between gears, the cable LS will drop the revs more on a shift but the axle ratio is the same so it will launch about the same.

hey guys thanx for the input....my question was answered dead on....about the car being slower and the spaced gearing wont be a problem...i have enough speeding violations as it is...but i am on a budget here and on top of that i cant afford having the car sitting w/ a busted tranny...i also do alot of highway driving and the high rev's on fifth do get kind of annoying...thanks again for the help i really appreciate it!
I believe that the first 2 gears in the LS are the same as those found in the B16 transmission?
I have a LS swap in my CRX, and everyday I floor it like Michael Andretti, but I still manage to get 30 miles per gallon evertime; most likely because of 5th gear.
