Default smaller turbo higher cylinder pressures?

i have heard from people that if i go with a turbo to small on my gsr the boost at low rpms will create higher cylinder pressures.. considering i have stock internals would this be a bad idea..? i have a t3/t4 due to fitment issues with my new manifold setup ive decided on a new turbo... i want a quicker spooling turbo that doesnt fall off at higher rpms.. built for lets say 330 crank hp....

Any turbo will create higher cylinder pressures. That's how you make more torque. The increase in cylinder pressures is proportional to boost, as you would expect.

good luck but if you use a gt28rs for example they max out a little over 300hp.
t3 t4 has more potential.

i have a t3/t4 now i need a 5 bolt turbo so im just going with something a lil more responsive .. so to answer the question it doesnt matter what rpm the boost gets there..its the boost that effects the cylinder pressure not the rpm+boost?

I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything but please don't go around giving false information. If you take some time and do a little reading you would find that statement to be extremely false.

No, it doesn't matter. Cylinder pressure is proportional to torque. Therefore wherever the engine makes maximum torque, the cylinder pressures are also at a maximum.

No, it won't hurt anything. Smaller turbos put less stress on the motor in general.

The smaller turbo will spool up (start making boost) sooner (at lower rpms). This is desirable for a street driven car, becuase it retains decent driveability throughout the RPM range.

Our Garrett distributor swears that you do not need a T3 to make decent horsepower. He claims that to put a T3 on a 1.6L, you should be drag racing, not street driving. He reccomends the T25 for a daily driver. In fact, Garrett liked the spool up of the T25 so much, that they used the turbine potion of that turbo and the compressor section of the T3 to make what is commonly known as the "Disco Potato". This combination created a turbo that spools up quick, and can also make large HP numbers.

For daily driving, I'd start with a T25...

Just my two cents...or maybe a little more ...

Craig

so is a t3 .42/.48 comparable to a t25? i always thought they were.
right/wrong?

So lets see here....

We need to find you a turbo that spools up quick, has lots of top end, and doesn't cost much....That it?

t25 wont make it till 8krpm not even on a b16! and why did we all buy a vtec in first place if your t25 boost drops @5.5k???

just a simple t3 turbo that wont fall off at the top end that is smaller than my t3/t4..doesnt have to spool like a ball bearing just want one that spools a little faster

t3/t4 57trim .63/.48 ar's.

I have this turbo above except .63/.60 ar/s and I am switching to the smaller housing for a little faster spool.

This is on mostly stock GSR 10psi. with .60/.63 AR's I hit full boost at 4700rpms.

Now 2.0 liter GSR with LS Crank!! woot woot!!!

Cheapturbo.com, about $500 bucks.

depending on the temp outside i hit 5.5psi of boost at around 3500 to 3800rpms with the t3/t4 i have now im not sure what that would equal if i was running 10psi but sound familiar?...

i searched for a t3 with the right comp. map but i couldnt find one. so if you cant afford a gt28rS your best bet would probbably be a t3to4e 50 trim .48a/r turbine.

The T3 is going to run out of breath at 8000. Ill be using a bigger T3, but ym redline is 6200 so im not worried. A 50 trim .60/.48 would be fine for your goals.
