JDM HID Headlight re-aiming?
Now....I did a search, and maybe I didn't search hard enough...if that's the case, please don't flame me too hard. But with the JDM ITR headlights....HID or not...I know there's an aiming bolt. But which way do I turn it to aim it so that its not aiming to the left and it will aim like its supposed to according to DOT regs for US roads? And how many turns? Or is this something I'm going to have to go at it by myself to find out? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
lol...i figured I'd have to go at it myself
Will do man....I figured if I don't get answers here...I'll do it myself and most likely take pics
Once I get around to it, I'll be back here with updates and info on how to do it so you don't get pulled over for having your headlights shine on oncoming traffic

yea....I know....but it couldn't hurt to try. I'm just sick n tired of people flashing their brights at me. I know sometimes people do that to warn of a cop ahead...but most of the time when this happens to me...there are no cops so the next obvious thing....my headlights
Search more. There's a few threads discussing adjustments. One has a diagram (with measurements) of how the beam pattern should be when projected on your garage door.

There is little you can do to aim them left or right. The range of adjustment will not pull the beam far enough to the right to make everyone happy.
The beam pattern is higher on the left than the right for the JDM headlights. The USDM headlights have the beam pattern higher on the right than on the left.
What I did was lower the beam pattern such that the top of the left cutoff was at the same height as the USDM left cutoff height. This effectively lowers the RH beam height past the USDM right cutoff height but at least you aren't pissing anyone off.

i hate to send you there because you have to be a member, but it's the most detailed article about headlight adjustment.

on a different note:
did anyone ever tried taking the jdm hid apart and replacing the projectors with a usdm one? (out a s2k or tsx?) so this way the beam pattern would be as they should over this side of the pond. just a though cause i think my adjustments are maxed out and i even tried to loosen the bolts and moved the housing, and it still aimed towards the left.

you will not be able to correct the beam via adjustment bolts. There is a physical shield in the projector itself that is shaped to project the light pattern for driving on the left side of the road. This is done to assist lighting up road signs on the side of the road, and to keep your headlights out of oncoming traffic.
The same applies to USDM lights. You need to replace the projector itself

Thanks for the info
But I'm going to try to do what markpaco said and at least try to lower the cut off.....I don't wanna get pulled over for one light shining in a cop's face

the shield is the grey sheet metal held in with the bronze screws.
____/----- thats the best sketch i can do without photoshop... but i would think you could take it apart and flip it over.. its not something you can just unbolt, but im sure it would take some fabrication.. (bending and maybe cutting some)

I saw the pic on that link....but there's one problem. That link details adjustments for USDM headlights....and I have the JDM ITR HID assemblies....
I did notice however.....what looked like "bolts" by the housings itself on the backside of the assembly. Does anyone know if I "tinkered" with those that it would help? Or are those not it? Arrrghhh.....
And built B16A....I've been told the same deal about taking them apart and doing whatevers to the lens and stuff..but I'm not sure I wanna "bake" the HID assemblies in the oven to take it apart
I know there's the option of the heat gun....but that takes too damned long
I'd rather find the adjustment screws or bolts if there are any and tinker with those....that seems to be the safest bet to me right now. If ANYONE has info on this please reply!!!! I know the JDM assemblies have the driver's side pointed off to the left and up, but I'm tired of people flashing their highbeams at me as if they've never seen a car with HID's ( either that or they were actually staring at my headlights directly ). I'd rather to say the very east "point" them downward more so that its not "directly" shining in someone's eyes while their driving past me going the opposite direction. PLEASE HELP!!!!

will do.....just outta sheer curiosity...can you get a pic of your headlights on so I can see what the cutoff I'm supposed to shoot for will be? I'd appreciate it
I know this, the little silver screw, adjusts the HID's up and down. Refer to the arrows for the directon to turn it. I've adjusted mine down, it's helped to some degree.

I just found the horizontal ( left to right ) adjustment bolts
After lowering the beams I chanced to look over to the side ( towards the corner lights ) and saw the "L" and "R" just like in the pic you showed, tucked in there, but not within reach of a 8mm wrench
Its located of course....on the top of the assembly. Looks like I'm going to have to remove the bumper and lights to get to it. But I'm 100% sure I can now adjust it so that it will "shine" to the right like its supposed to
