Help me get the best out of what I have... (sounds system)
Ive searched and read over the FAQ, I hope that these questions are not asked all the time in this forum, if it is, mods please delete this thread and point me in the right direction where I can find the answers to my questions. I picked up a new headunit (old one bit the dust, didnt enjoy full throttle shifts) which is a Pioneer (DEH-P2600) which claims a power output of 22w all the time and 50w per channel max. (does this mean to each speaker? If so how, can I maximize the amount of power to the speaker form the HU?) I have some very nice Alpine 3 way 6x9s and 2 smaller alpine 4in speakers. (120 watt peak and 30w RMS IMP 4 OHM. (SPS 6939S)) Anyway, I happened to have these in my old Acura before I wrecked it. The 6x9s did a good job at putting out a nice bass sound (were mounted above the trunk, possibly acted as a box for them?). They were powered by a 35w Pioneer deck that was older. Now that I have put the 6x9s into the rear of my CRX
where the stockers belong and they do not put out hardly any bass whatsoever. Is there anywhere that someone can point me to mount area/sizing - speaker output and size or advise on how to get the old bass back?(looking to stay away from a box) I also had an issue with the old Alpine deck, whenever under any heavy load (deep bass tone) the head unit display will get quite dim. Now, Ive read in the FAQ that a 10ga wire should be used to power some Pioneer decks, so I plan on doing this and hoping it will be able to provide enough power to the deck, as well as speakers. What I was wondering is should I run it to what power wire? Both constant and main power wire (and do I just wire up the 10ga wire to the 18ga wire where the pin comes out of the radio harness)? Once I have ran it form the batt. do I need to put in an inline fuse? Sorry if these questions are
“noobish” but if you could point me in a direction or any help that would be great!
Thanks!

As for getting the best sound out of the speakers, [yes you were right, the trunk did work as a box] the 6x9s need an air space behind them, remember this a properly mounted smaller speaker will sound better then an improperly mounted bigger one, also, speaker rule 1- mount speaker to a FLAT surface, 2- the speaker needs an airtight seal between the front and back, [for bass] 3- the more mass the speaker is mounted to the better it will sound, [to a point] 4- a speaker mounted to wood will sound better then that same speaker mounted to anything else.

[QUOTE=fcm]Last Q first. run a fused 10ga power wire from the batt. to behind the HU and connect it to the yellow constant power wire of the HU a few inchs from the plug. Just solder em up then? Will this keep my HU from dimming and provide more max. power to each individual speaker? What about the 22w and max 50w thing? How does that work? Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your help!</TD></TR></TABLE>Soldering is always best, 22watts is the RMS power, although I would want to see the spec sheet for the HU, the "true" output of the HU amp will read something like 22 watts per ch. RMS 20 to 20,000 into 4 OHMs at 12v, and the spec sheet will also give you a peak output 50 watts per ch. max, this is what the amp will do in short "burst" at some freq. without damaging the speaker, if you look at amp spec sheets you will see that they use a lot of ways to rate the power of the amp, Ibet if I put 14v into your HU and turned up the volume to the point of clipping I'd get 100 watts per ch. out of that HU, although, it would sound like crap , and the speakers could not take it fot to long.
