Have you got a caged S2000? I want to see it!

You'll need to get the specs for the racing series you plan to race in and have a cage builder develop something for you personally. This will be important with the seat you will be going with, the harness mounts, etc. Expect to pay upwards of 1500-2K for the cage. Also, please don't use these on the street unless you wear a helmet on the street. Those cages will just split your head in two, or three, or four, maybe more, pieces.
Other than that, Mugen and Cusco both have cages. But neither are approved for any stateside sanctions that I am aware of.

its fine to have a cage if you have race buckets and 4pt harness. Also make sure you don't get those bolt on cages that have their front two bars come down right before the vents. You will seriously hurt yourself in an accident. If you get a cage, get one that have the front two points go through the vents.

You are forgetting Bitterman and Elda.
Elda IS approved for SCCA use. And I think the Bitterman was in the works of gettting approved.
The Cusco cage is for looks.

Correct. They are bars, not cages. Last I remember, Elda was considering (did they?) discontinuing their bar. Lack of demand even though lots of people have them on their Christmas list.

True, they are roll bars, but how many people need a full cage in the car? It's impractical for daily use and should not be used in a daily driver.
I believe Vapor has a full cage in his car.

I highly doubt that but please find a link if you can.
And it seems, on specs alone, that the Mugen "should" pass tech for track days. Seems like the best bet is to get something made here if you need a rollbar for track events.

Mine was custom built, but the tube behind the seat is too far forward... i had them cut it out and put a bent one back there... i didn't fit very well before.
I would probably not put the braces behind the seats down to the floor, but instead to the tray behind the seats.... "slickrick" on the S2000 board has his that way which is less tubing (less weight) and more room for the seat (mine is still pretty tight).
Hope the pics help some.... mine is almost an exact duplicate of EFFECTS (team toilet gay guy)

BS!
You want a 6 point belt, not a 4-point, and a cage in a street car is a bad idea!

I contacted TrueRace last week about a rollbar, and they said they currently dont have one for the S2000, but if I could get 3-4 people interested, they would do it.....
Thank you for the pics, that looks like a nice cage but cramped eh?
We have a nice FIA Homoligated cage kit available from Custom Cages in the UK. With the MSA/FIA homoligation papers this cage would be leagle for ANY sanctioning body in North America as long as it was properly installed. The price is reasonable as well! And you get peice of mind that your cage was actually a certified design. Not many of those in North America.
About cages and street cars... It is safe to drive a street car with a cage in it on the street as long as your smart about it and have the proper padding in place. I do it all of the time. Behind those wimpy door that we all sit next too is steel with some padding over it. shrug. Ever been hit by one of those doors? I have, no fun at all, I'm safer with a cage.

If you get your cage built by a good race shop using scca/nasa guidelines and then get a logbook for the car to race, then it will be "certified" as well and I'd trust that a lot better than a one-size-fits-all bolt in "certified" fia approved cage.

Go outside and slam your head into the "padded" bars as hard as you can. That ******* hurts, right? Now think about what would happen if the impact were 10 or 20x greater. Not fun anymore is it? Steel tubes in close proximity to your head without a helmet on - have fun with that.

You have pix of the front? where the cage goes through the dashboard.

That's true about logbooked cages/cars, I have owned two SCCA logbooked rally cars. That was a good point RJ.
I will point out that the the S2000 FIA kit available through Safe Drives IS a weld-in, fully engineered, CAD designed FIA certified kit. Not just some generic bolt in job.
I like engineered and FIA certified cage kits. It just makes sense to me.
I like FIA rated seats and harnesses.
I like ANSI certified first aid kits.
I like certified safety products.
I sell certified auto safety products.

This is the only one i could find online that has any dash pics.... you can see where it goes through.... it is not too far off of the ECU on the drivers side, but I can still get to the ECU. I think other people have made theirs an 8 point cage and tied it to the firewall under there somehow. Mine works for me.
and it only cost me $900.00 total including having the guy cut that one part back out and put in a bent tube.

hey Safe Drives - how much is your weld in kit?
thanks
