Speeding ticket Help – What does “Speed Measurement Device – Pace” means on the ticket
On the ticket there is a row which specifies the Speed Measurement Device used. There its written as “Pace”. Any idea as to what this is? Is this some kind of a radar gun? Or this specifies the fact that officer measures the speed just by observing how fast you are going?
My friend got a ticket for doing 75 on a 45 stretch (30 over the limit will be treated as a Criminal driving violation). I was sitting on the passenger seat and don’t think that he was doing 75 at that time….I think may be 55, 60 not more than that.
I know that there are so called trained officers who are supposed to tell the speed just by looking at how fast a car is moving. I have seen a cop testifying in a court room against someone for doing 30 mph in a school zone and he did not have any radar gun at that time

pacing means that the cop was following him and watching his speedometer to keep pace with him and determine how fast he was going.

that's correct...my dad is a cop here in TX and it will not stand up in court here...I'm not sure what the laws are where you are at, but pacing is not accurate by any means....I'd take it to court and most likely it will get dismissed

Yep, some places it will not hold up in court. I'm hoping it is the case here, I was pulled over back in November for supposedly doing 85 in a 45 construction zone. I would have argued, but my speedometer wasn't working, so I was pretty much just keeping up with traffic.
The officer needs to indicate how far and at what distance they paced you. You have a good chance in court provided you are articulate. Things to obtain before you go to court:
1) Speedometer calibration records and vehicle records (tire size, etc.)
2) A copy of the officer's logbook
They must provide these data to you. If they refuse, record the refusing person's name and badge number.

Good to know info... I think my second ticket was paced for 1/4 mile, I went to court and said I was late for a study session for the SATs, the judge dismissed it.

Probably he may want to go to a lawyer on this??
I am sure a good lawyer can argue and come up with a lot points about the errors and inconsistencies in "Pacing"
