Default to gut or not to gut? thats my question...

sorry about the cheesy title--i just had to. okay so here's my dilema, i don't know wether or not to gut my car because i'm afraid that it will make the ride too uncomfortable. all i ask is for your opinions: how big the weight reduction is, how noisy it is, your prefered method on removing the sound dampening material, and simply--yes or no.

btw...i have a '95 integra ls (2dr)

i'm just planning on giving the car a clean exterior, a nice suspension set-up and some basic bolt-ons....don't really have big plans for the car, just mosty road racing and maybe a little autocross.

personally i wouldn't do it unless it was a dedicated track car. it looks so nasty with everything out of the car...

Agreed. Also, the noise factor will increase due to the lack of sound deadening in the car. If its a daily driver, think twice, then think again.

I like it, but I have one car that is mainly track use, nothing else.

DO IT. As one person says, the cars look dirty with nothing in it. I mean sure it might be a bit lowder, but if you ask me our integras aren't the quietest cars to begin with. Do what you think is right based on what you'll use your car for, but i still have my car as a daily driver and im in the process of gutting everything. The rubber is also quasi-heavy, but your best of going on a diet to save a couple of pounds.....LOL

If it is your daily driver, personally, I would leave the interior. Like justrollin said, if this car will be your track *****, then go for it, otherwise, I would think long and hard.

You are being sarcastic right? All of the chicks I know that ride in my car would be like "wtf is wrong with you taking out all of the interior!?!?" They would be like "You ruined your car"

Also when you say gut, do you mean like a full track-gut. Like remove everything but the dash and front seats? If you do it please leave your door panels on, it looks fugly if you take them off. I personally wouldnt do it.

my friend stripped everything behind the front seats in his teg..it only lasted a few months till he couldnt stand it and replaced everything, minus the sound deadening

if you wanna save some weight and keep it looking nice just take out the back seat and the spare tire and jack. it will give you about 50lbs loss. Thats all i would do personally

I took out the rear seats and seat belts, but left the plastic and carpet. Its a second car and am considering putting a cage in the car.

I actually enjoy not having the rear seats in the car, but its not like anyone ever wanted to sit back there anyways, so its much nicer not having to listen to bitching passengers.

Leaving the rear carpet in the back I hardly notice any more road noise, but then I am still fixing squeeks the car has.

dont do it. for wat you get outta it the cons outweigh the pros. esp on a daily driver. keep the interior. but if you do end up stripping it. chisel away at the sound deadening stuff. chips pretty easily.

why don't you strip out the spare tire/trunk mat/deck tray/rear seatbelts. that way you could easily remove the back seats when you want to bring it to the track, and still not have as much road noise on any given day

Personally I don't think it's very hard to remove interior. With that said, just try it out and see how you like it. You can always put things back. It will be louder (wind noise, engine noise), but as someone said Integras aren't extremely quiet to begin with. As for sound deadening use dry ice and a putty knife. Now is a nice time because its cold. I wouldn't do this until you're sure you like having no interior.

However, for autocross unless you plan on competing next season I would just leave everthing in due to class placement. If you don't plan on being competitive or doing it very often then it wont matter. If by road racing you mean HPDE it wont matter either.

I only did this to satisfy my curiosity (and boredom). I have my interior back in now. For your plans, you may find yourself doing the same.

it would depend on what ur plans are ultimately.. is your car going to be a track ***** most of the time or daily driver most of the time.. remember it's 80% driver 20% car.. and the only way u can test improvements is by timing your laps and driving consistently... u should go to a few hpde's before you decide...

i've been to quite a few events now (full interior minus spare tire).. and i'm loving it i dont mind making a few sacrifices cuz i dont drive her daily... for sure sound deadening material is going.. so are the airbags.. and probably the rear seats(besides the c-pillar bar makes it impossible to safely carry passengers anymore).. the front door panels have to stay just incase she decides to roll over and give everyone cut up arms/legs.. not like she has an annoying n1 fartcan of an exhaust.. we're pretty much good to go

I agree that unless it's a dedicated track car, don't do it. I don't think the weight reduction is significant enough to make dramatic difference. To me the ride feels uncomfortable cuz i feel the car is in pieces and the ride is much louder.

Once a year my car becomes a rally car and the rest of the time it is daily driven. I remove everything from the front seats back and I also loose the center console, carpeting, air bags, and the cd deck. I find moderate difference especially when your pushing the car to the limits. My opinion is that you do both depending on what your uses are for the car. Take it out when you want to and put it back in when your finished. the car will become louder, but it sounds real nice around 6000K+.
