sway bar & tie bar installed, now weird "thump" noise.. help
i installed my sway bar about 3 weeks ago and never re-alligned the rear (which i guess i should have...), but my car was driving great so i figured i could wait a little while. about 2 days ago i installed a lower tie bar and now i hear a little "thump" after turning then straightening the wheel.. almost sounds like the jack or spare tire jumping or even a quick backfire. any ideas what this could be??
I'm assuming those parts were in the rear? (Rear sway bar & rear lower tie bar) Was the clearance on the sway bar to the exhaust piping close? The exhuast might be hitting the sway bar on bumps, check the tubing for dents or rubs.
i just checked and nothing is hitting.. i mean the lca is far from touching the sway bar and the exhaust clears... the noise doesn't happen on bumps anyway, just after turning. it's a skunk2 sway bar & aci tie bar:
I bet I know what the sound is, I had the same thing happen to me when I installed a JDM 23mm ITR swaybar on my '99 Ls.
It was the little black brackets that hold the ABS brake line in place.
When the car is back down on the ground, Check to see if the sway bar is laying against those bracket bolted onto the top of the LCA.
Good luck and keep us posted.
If you keep driving around like that, You will get wear marks on the sway bar and rusting could be in the future.

yeah, jack up the car again and actually load the suspension so you can see how close the swaybar is to the rest of the parts around it. when its at full droop, it should definately clear all the parts, itll be different when you push the wheel up.
check all the bolts involved with the swaybar / tie bar and make sure they're tight. when i reinstalled my front swaybar after a year of sitting on the shelf, one of the endlink bolts wasn't completely tightened, and i would get a loud thump as the suspension unloaded after turning. i went over all the bolts a few times, and that endlink bolt felt tight every time.
try hopping on the door plate (the plastic on the bottom of the door opening) of either the drivers or passenger side of the car to simulate (somewhat) the suspension load, and have someone listen for the noise.

had the same problem with my buddies 01 ex and it turned out to be that one of the end links losend(this let that side of the sway bar move just enogh to hit the exhaust) up and all we did was tighten it back up and no more noise
check all the end links and bolts and look for spots that could be close enough for contact
good luck
