Default Budgeting

This evening and Tomorrow I am going to do some finicial planning and budgeting for the upcoming year and beyond. My love for the track has me thinking I should budget in my addiction. Does anyone have experience with this? What are some of the things I should look at budgeting in? Please be specific because this is something that is very important to me and I don't want monetary issues to get in the way. This is what I have thought of on a large scale:

1:Saftey Items not already in place in my car
2: Usual wear and tear to brakes and tires
3:Track time

Don't forget travel and hotel and food.

I used to budget, but it got depressing and I couldn't enjoy myself. Now I just do what I want/need to do until I start to run out of money. Then I quit for a while to let the account level crawl back up.

Scott, who will only be doing one event between now and April because he is flat assed broke.

Having been in and around racing since 1963, I find that racing today cost THE SAME AS it did in 1963.

Every cent you got......

If the car is also your daily driver, leave enough money in your pool for fixing it in the worst case scenario. In other words, if you need the car every day, don't put it on the track unless you have enough money to buy another one if you total it.

What's a budget? As soon as it comes in, it just goes right back out. My only real suggestion is to try to have something in reserve. Trust me, it's handy when your motor takes a big ****.

Hmmm. About 9-12 hours for RA-1's. Roughly $160-$180/tire plus shaving. Porterfield pads about 1/2 the season (if you are lucky) about $160 a pair. Premium gas about 6 gals/ hour $2 +/gal here in CA. HPDE about $175/event. Enduro about $350/event. Driving suit $300-up($400). Driving shoes$50-up($120). Gloves same($90). Helmet $300-up ($450). Some people change the oil every race. I change it about every 10-15 hours. Redline 4 qts = $30. Water Wetter 1 bottle for the season = $8. Fuel jugs? = $22 each. Rags, racer tape, windex spark plugs, spares, underwear/neck collar/video camera/radios???. About $30 worth of diesel for the tow vehical each trip. I am too lazy to actually add it all up. Too scared too.
