Hi guys,
I decided to switch from my Kenji chipped P28 back to my stock P72. When I switched back I got a CEL 41. I used to have this problem when I installed the motor and first used the P72. It usually went away after the car had been driven for a while. When I switched to my Kenji chipped P28, I had the same problem but it went away permanently after a week. I ran the P28 for about 2 months no problems, but today when I swapped back to my P72 I have the CEL 41 again.
I'm guessing that there is a problem with my O2 sensor. But I was wondering why the same CEL didn't show up on my P28. Is that because the P28's aren't set up for 4 wire O2 sensors or something?
I had another weird wuestion for those of you guys living in CA that have BAR'ed your swapped cars. Do you guys think there's any chance I could get a Kenji or Uberdata chipped P28 to pass the certification? WHen I go to get BAR'ed do they hook up some stuff to the ECU as part of their test?
Thanks

When I got mine BAR'd, they just pulled up the carpet to glance at the sticker to check if it was a p72.
They didn't hook anything up to it or open it up. (Good thing, since my p72 is chipped) Anyways. You can probably get by with a chipped ecu, as long as its the right one
Also, I doubt the program you're running on that Kenji chip is gonna be very tailpipe-friendly.
I had to lean my chip out a bit in the low RPM's to pass the test.
Anyways, I passed with a chipped ECU, but I'm also convinced I had the most laid-back referee in the state. heh. Are you anywhere near San Diego by chance?

Do you recall if they hooked anything up to that blue connector located close to the ECU?
I'm also certain that the Kenji P28 ECU wont pass the sniffer test. However I'm gonna be running uberdata, and I've already ordered the burner and a few other parts from moates.net that should get me started on burning ECU's. I thought that maybe I could use UD to fix the fuel curve so that it might pass the sniffer. But then I might run into the problem with the ECU stickers since you say they check for that.
If I do decide to chip my P72, maybe I can disable the HO2, if that is even an option. I live up in NorCal, and I dont know how strict the Refs are in this area.

The guy seriously just lifted up the carpet, glanced at the ECU for 2 seconds, and put the carpet back. That was it.

HO2? I think I'm just drawing a blank right now.
You mean the o2 heater?

hehehe, yah HO2 = Heated O2
That's how I've seen it referred to sometimes.

Yup, I read about that on the uberdata page. I posted a thread on the UD forums to see what people think. I was thinking maybe I could chip my P72 and just use that for my BAR certification and also for my turbo setup.
I ordered the UBER 1 kit from moates.net and it has everything needed to setup an ECU for UD. I was gonna use it to practice my ECU soldering skills on my spare DX ECU. Once all my stuff from moates arrives I'll have 2 29C256 EPROMs that I can burn. I could burn one with a completely stock GSR map and just disable the HO2 circuit. Then my other EPROM can be used for my turbo setup.
I was gonna get a USB or MAX223 serial port hooked up so that I could have datalogging capabilities. But if the Ref sees a USB cable sticking out of the ECU he might get suspicious. I'll probably get Kenji to setup my P72 for uberdata and burn a stock GSR EPROM with the HO2 disabled. I could use that for certification, then I'll swap back to my P28 and send my P72 back to Kenji so that he can hook up my dataloging cable.
I was hoping to learn how to do all the soldering my self, but I wanna try getting my car BARed right away. So I guess I'll end up geting Kenji to do my ECU soldering for me.

Yeah, I recently chipped my ecu and used uberdata to disable the heated o2s, because I had a wideband. they shouldnt look inside your ecu, so unless you have something obviously wrong with the ecu, you should be fine.

Yah, the only thing I'm concerned with right now is the refs hooking up their machines to my car (if they even do that). I had always thought that when they smog your car they hook up their diagnostic or smog equipment to your car so that their equipment is communicating with your engine/ecu. I thought that was what the blue plug was for underneath the glove box. I guess not

That is wierd that you are getting that code. You can disable the O2 sensor in Uberdata like you have mentioned, but I would try and find out why you still are getting that code. Let me know if you need your ecu shipped for the uberdata setup. I can make you a base uberdata program for your P72 if you want. I also have a P08 converted to P28 ecu setup for uberdata with the USB datalogging cable if you wanted to trade for that chipped P28 ecu.

Yah it's either a bad O2 sensor or might be the wiring. I ended up using regular wire butt crimps and some 16 gauge wire. I had to do this because my custom engine harness and the O2 sensor that I bought from another member both had male plugs.
About the P72, if I send you the P72 with the UBER1 kit you say you can solder it in for me? and what kinds of EPROMs can you burn for me? I'll have two 29C256 EPROMs once they get here from moates. Would you be able to burn one with a completely stock GSR map but with the HO2 sensor disabled so I dont get the code 41? and with my other EPROM would you be able to burn me a map that I can use for my turbo setup? one that I can use just so the car is driveable until I can get it to a dyno for some real tuning.
Thanks

</TD></TR></TABLE>Possible that the wiring is to blame on the O2 sensor or you can ohm out the two black wires on the O2 sensor and see if you have less than 8ohms. I can make you either a Hondata, crome or uberdata Bin file. Hit me up via PM and let me know what you need. I can make both the stock gsr base and a turbo base to get you to the dyno too.
