Default Problems after replacing D15B2 engine with SOHC ZC

I just swapped the D15B2 engine in my 1990 CRX DX with a SOHC ZC engine. It started and ran great until we took it up above 3500 rpm. Above 3500 it cuts out and the tach needle jumps all over the place. We checked the distributor and are going to replace it cuz it was definately bad, but is there something we're missing????? Also is there a specific distributor I should get, or just replace the one that was on the D15 with the same? I'm new to this and I just wanted to replace my tired engine with a newer one. Please help. I need this car to run.

When i took my d15b out and put the sohc zc in, i used a Si distributor. But when the tach jumps around a lot, its usually the ignitor. So if you can get your hands on a Si distributor, then get it.

Did you rewire the engine bay harness to accept the new Multi-Point system?

I was told I did not have to convert to MPFI. Was I taken for a ride or can I make this work with my DPFI. I just need a running vehicle not a hot rod.

You dont have to rewire it for mpfi. Just try a new distributor.

This is true, but that also means he cant go and get a SI dizzy like u said. Try taking the ignitor out and cleaning the terminals on it and making sure the connectors are tightly connected, OR just find a known good working DX dizzy and swap it.

Did you reuse the DPFI manifold? Thats a must if your not gonna convert... also must use a DPFI distributor. Then you will be high flying.
