Using the 3-4-5 from a ZC JDM L3 into a D16Z6 tranny ( S20 ) question + broken fork pics...
Hi guys ! Last summer I had many shifting problem with my tranny under high load but it was going fine when cruising around in normal driving condition. So I kept the car like that for a fews months until I had the time to open the tranny.
Now it was time for me to put my 3-4-5 gears from a JDM ZC L3 tranny into my original tranny and try to find my shifting problem... and I found that my 3 to 4 fork was broke and the broken piece was laying in the tranny loll and it didnt broke anything else
. Anyone know if this can affect my 1st to 2nd shift ??? Cuz my 2nd gear was a bi... to engage under high load ??

Next question, can I use the fork from the ZC JDM L3 tranny to replace the one in my S20 ? The code for the 5th gear is the same in the two tranny but in the ZC L3 all the others forks have no code but they look identical....
The ZC L3 5th fork :

Also in this link ( http://home.cinci.rr.com/mistab0ne/tranny.html ) they said : " If you use the ZC 4th gear it will require grinding to fit the synchro hub. " What this really mean ? Is it a big trouble ???
Thanks for your reply I will wait for a good awnser loll sitting in my garage... ( its my friend Seb on the pic )

you dont know untill you try, I would put it in and give it a go on the bench , if it goes in all of the gears and it looks like the fork is putting the syncro sleeve in the right location then you got yourself a go to do some street testing. It sucks but it would work, you seem experienced enough to make it happen

Ever thought of using the D16Y8 shift forks? The D16Z6 forks are notoriously known for being weak. The Z6 are made out of aluminum where the Y8 is made out of steel. Just a thought here.
