well i just picked up a d16a6 for cheap and i was gunna toss my d6 head on it and slap it in the car since i just spun a bearing on my d16z6 yesterday but then someone offered me a d16z6 for a good price so i think im gunna grab that too.
my question is should i save the d16z6 or save the minime for when im ready to build an engine for forced induction? i realize the mini me has higher compression wich isnt good for FI. but is there a way to lower the compression and if so, would it be a better candidate than the d16z6? my goal is to eventially build a stout engine to turbocharge and reliably push approx. 200-250hp if possible.
and im deffinately sticking with the d serries no matter what.
also, i plan on changing the internals so cost and availability of aftermarket parts is a big issue.

mini me + boost owns! the myth of high comp and boost is kinda old school train of thought. i'm currently running 10psi on my mini me, check my sig.
good luck

im assuming your engine has stock internals if you're only running 10lbs but have you checked into aftermarket internals? can you use the same rods or crank as other engines such as the d16z6? im not sure on the differences between the d16z6 and the d16a6 besides the pistons. also, what do you think you're pushing for whp?

i'm running a stock sohc ZC block which is identical to the a6, and the Z6 head. My car is tuned out pretty well as it sits, although it hasn't seen the dyno yet i'm guessing that @ 10psi i should be somewhere around 210-220WHP... maybe more??? i won't know till spring.
i'll just say 200WHP so i dont jinx myself.

wow thats pretty respectible. i checked out your link, very nice job. i hope mine turns out as well as yours! i think im going to turbo the d16z6 though. one of the main reasons is the fact that its illegal here in cali to put a motor thats older than the car into the car. all that work would be down the drain if i got pulled over and was forced to go to the smog ref. what im going to do for now is toss in the minime and run it till i get the d16z6 built for boost. till then, i may tinker with throwing a turbo on the stock minime just to get some FI tuning experience.
