Do lightweight flywheels offer much to your car as far as performance?
Im in a dire need of a new clutch for my car as mine is started to fade and wear out. I did a little ebay searching and found a clutch and lightweight flywheel set for around $300. After doing some research I guess you have to resurface the flywheel in orderto install a new clutch? Is that necessary for a new clutch or just a good idea? Im trying to decide which would be the best way to go. If I need to pay $40 + to resurface a stock flywheel why not just upgrade. My question to you guys is it worth the money???
i have one on my accord and it's pretty sweet. the car revs alot quicker and seemed a little quicker. i'd recommend doing it since you'll have the tranny off. i have the clutchmaster 8.??lb one by the way
MMMM I RECOMMEND! I have an exedy clutch w/fidanza 8 lb. flywheel. I'd say it helped out a lot in the lower revs through mid-range, it pulls a lot more and revs out faster. GO FOR IT!

A lighter flywheel allows the power from the engine being tranfered to your wheels so if you lightened the flywheel less power would be lost, just don't go too light.
The engine will rev more freely but I have heard of a slight tq loss...get it installed and let us know how you like it

Its an 8lb Fidanza flywheel. Hopefully that not too light. how will the engine rev quicker but lose torque?
It's not a lose of torque from the motor but of rotating mass of the flywheel. Since the flywheel is lighter it spins with less effort but it will slow with less effort as well. If you have the chance, do it. The driving learning curve takes five minutes to get use to. I don't know anyone who has gone to a lighter flywheel who has gone back. Fidanza or cm are fine.
i recommend one, as i have one installed in my car, and seemed to work good, just like everyone said, it revs up quicker and you decellerate quicker too. driveability didn't suffer at all. i would suggest though, get a fidanza as i think the prices are a little lower on those as opposed to the other brands (clutchmasters, etc..)which are the same exact flywheel.
